ARLEN
The song what we sang was "Two Lovers". Who wants to know about that? Let's just skip to the good part.
I know you'll be with me
'Cause it's true, no matter what~ you'll be my lover
Two lovers living a dream~
Elmery extended the last part as I played the last chord, the crowd cheered for us and applauded. I felt my heart beating out of my chest, this was truly an enticing moment. But the person standing next to me was even more enticing, the crowd was mostly looking at her, which I didn't mind at all since I was mostly here for the medal. She was breathing heavily, sweat trickled down her forehead. She bit her lip and laughed like she never had, we thanked the crowd and left the stage.
You might be wondering, why are you singing a love song at church? Well you see, this place has a humongous stage. The people who came for mass left quickly as parents and relatives barged in to see their child's performance. The church was also a school, taking most of the neighborhood's area. This was Elmery's church, that is why she mostly wins. Budget was high, so they invited children from other churches and schools to participate. Normally, the competition ended at the church level [school level] but this time since they had a lot of money they decided to have a district level which was all new to Elmery.
"Did your parents come to watch?" I asked, we were currently going back to the classroom where we rehearsed. "Sadly they couldn't make it," She said apathetically, "They had a few errands to run at this time."
"You don't seem to care."
"That's because I don't."
"Why?" I asked, slightly concerned about my friend's relationship with her parents.
"Normally they come to watch, but this time my mother was disappointed that I got second last time so she knew I'd suck."
"That's not what I asked, why don't you care?"
"Can we not talk about this?"
"Sure, I'm sorry." I respected her decision, if she didn't want to tell me that's fine. It's not like I'm dying to know...
I am dying to know.
I tell her everything about myself, [Except the fact that I got bullied, that she doesn't need to know about] she does too...But she never tells me anything about her family, only that she has a brother named Evan.
Evan.
The way she reacted when he left, it was very scary. I have rarely seen her so exasperated, which is saying a lot since she's frustrated all the time. They probably have some sibling rivalry, which is worse than any sibling rivalry I've ever seen.
"Why are you making the mood so gloomy? Are you going home alone?" she asked.
"Ya, why?"
"Let's go grab some drinks!"
"Drinks? B-But why? Won't your parents get mad? The results are going to come out any minute!"
"Don't worry, Arlen. The results won't be out in like an hour! There is convenience store just next to the church, I'm dying to drink some soda! I haven't had one in ages, please?"
