Sea, Swallow Me
The end was a figment, almost imperceptible
Yet those warning signs were clear enough today;
Drawing the line where the sea met the shore, melting ever so gently into the horizon
Of which infinite swirls of many a color come alive
Dancing ever so gracefully in the twinkling sea, reflecting its allure from the skyWalking barefoot on the sands of time,
I saw the waves crashing down on my feet go
Farther and farther, the receding shoreline became
The more I ran for safety in the nets of the mountains in our townAnxiety trickling down my spine; loud noises reverberating
Those around me unaffected by our own panic
We were the only ones rushing to escape the surges
The distance became far wider than anticipated hoping it was far enough to escapeUntil the jarring truths concealed in its waters resurfaced miles away,
We thought we won fate, but alas the calm was before the storm
The world went still, the coast was clear -
Clearer than what those before us had discovered
Unveiling the fissures deep enough to see its own inhabitantsOld relationships anchored to the earth, beneath the beautiful blue hues
Rust festering at the bottom with beds of corals on the brink of collapsing;
The monstrous tide is quickly boding its natural course
Oh how its impending fragility mirrored our ownThe words spoken like a fervent prayer; the wind has whispered to the ocean
Its voice loud enough to drown the sound minded
Drawing confusion in its wake,
Unable to see further from my vantage
Its tremors yet to subside violently hit the coastDevastation befell upon us as the tide rushes through the remainders of who we were
Flooding the ruptures of our once indelible land
The sea swallowed us whole
Leaving the past behind us, saying goodbyeBut as I held your hand, the tidal waves did not hurt us
As I opened my eyes I saw you smiling amidst it all
The vicious waves did not drown me, and it freed you
I didn't mean to let you go, not now, not yet, not ever,
As the waters calmed, you decided to release the anchor
You let your ship sail away to unknown waters to find your wayThough regrets and sorrows came in waves,
The damage to the shoreline and beyond was already done
There was nothing much to recover from
In the wake of the tsunami's devastation around us,
The fragile relationship between us has dissolved like seafoam
Bubbling ever so gently into the ocean that holds us in its memories
Where you came to stay as I resurfaced to the shoreOur time has come and gone so soon,
Leaving a bittersweet taste in my mouth with eyes prickled by the salty sea
I hold you in my heart like a lighthouse
Waiting and hoping someday you'll come back
Sending you letters in bottles in hopes they reach you in peace
From the shore to the vast open sea
As I walk once more to find beauty in the coast of our town————————————————————
A/N:Although I'd hope we were able to hold on together for more time, the inevitable consequences of what was laid out in the open became our undoing.
I'm sorry, we love you still 🤍
Thank you.
