"Because everything works in your arms"
-Come On Get Higher, Matt Nathanson
The backdrop of today's sunset cast an orange glow over Gwen's spider-suit, the white sections of the thin material drinking in the sun's rays as she remained crouched on the roof of a building and stared at an apartment in the distance. She'd told Miles to be expecting her today after their last training session had ended, but she'd never specified an exact time. Which was good, because it allowed Gwen to stall for the time being as a mess of emotions continued to tie her stomach into knots.
Her fingers kneaded the fabric of her mask as she held it in her hands, the shadows cast by her hood falling over her face and obscuring it from any potential onlookers. You're going to have to go there eventually... better now than later, Gwen thought with a sigh.
Although her conversation with MJ several days ago had been a moment of peace and relaxation that she'd needed desperately, it still hadn't brought clarity to this tense situation that Gwen was caught in. She wanted to see Miles, yet she didn't... she wanted him to take up her old mantle as protector of New York City, yet she was afraid of him getting hurt or killed... she wanted to give her connection to him another shot, yet she didn't know if she was ready to move on from the past.
MJ had suggested kindling a friendship with him to get a feel for what to do, but it wasn't going to be as direct as the redhead had probably imagined. Miles wasn't going to be getting Gwen Stacy as a friend for now... but maybe Gwen's alter ego becoming a friend to Miles would be a starting point for her to sort this out.
Her blue eyes flicked away from the apartment as she pulled out her phone, looking at the screen to check the time. It was 5:47.
Yeah, you better get moving. If you wait any longer then you won't have time to write your papers once the training session is over.
Gwen pulled her mask over her face, then dove off the roof before firing a web through the air. Once again, she didn't swing too low so as to not draw any unneeded attention to herself. There were more police cruisers out and about now, a result of the current State of Emergency that the mayor had declared in response to the Ghost Spider's return to the city.
She got to Miles's apartment in a flash, sticking to the wall and briskly climbing towards his window. Once she reached it, Gwen leaned over the window and prepared to tap her knuckles on it to get his attention.
But what she saw inside was about as unexpected as it got.
Miles was seated in front of his computer with another male next to him. This friend of Miles was a bit shorter than Miles but with a stouter frame, and had his own laptop seated next to Miles's keyboard. He looked to be Korean, but Gwen wasn't completely certain. Both of them were wearing headphones over their ears and had a rather expensive-looking microphone sitting between their computers.
Uh... what?? Gwen blinked rapidly at the sight. She listened as the two friends chatted and jeered at each other, getting extremely invested in whatever they were doing.
"Haha!! Try going left again, Miles-"
"Fine by me, catch some of THIS!!"
"No no no, stop-AH!!"
"Serves you right, buddy..."
From what Gwen could tell, they were playing against each other in some game. The two were so lost in their virtual competition that they hadn't noticed the most infamous figure in the city right outside the window. "Boys..." Gwen muttered to herself, shaking her head in frustration before knocking on the window.
