"It's only me, what you got to lose?"
-Circles, Post Malone
Ow... oh man, it still hurts.
Unfortunately, a good night's rest had done nothing to alleviate the soreness plaguing Miles's body. He groaned as he turned onto his side, flashbacks from the previous night's training session with Ghost Spider popping up in his mind.
"No, no, you're getting driven back!!" Miles heard the stern voice of his mentor as he dodged another brick that sailed at his head, flipping backwards as Ghost-Spider sighed in frustration and shook her head. "You're trying to ADVANCE as you dodge!!" The masked female continued to pick up bricks from the pile at her side and throw them at the speed of lightning, only narrowly missing Miles with every throw.
"I hate to break it to you..." Miles said in-between jumping and heavy breaths. "...But if I can barely dodge at this distance, there's no way I'll dodge if I get any closer!"
"Got it. Officially adding 'lacks confidence' to your report." Ghost-Spider quipped, not letting up as Miles gritted his teeth. He made a leap forward, and his eyes went wide as he saw a brick sail directly at his head... but, without even thinking or trying to move, his body contorted backwards and avoided the brick.
"THERE!!" Ghost-Spider finally let up, pointing a finger at Miles as he quickly looked up at her. "That's it!! Trust those reflexes."
"How... how did I do that...?" Miles panted, trying to wrap his head around how he'd been able to dodge that. Ghost-Spider chuckled at his stunned demeanor, shrugging her shoulders.
"Technically, you did it because you now have a built-in reflex system that detects potential threats due to proximity to your body rather than sight." Ghost-Spider explained. Miles could almost imagine the dorky, sarcastic smile beneath the white mask.
"Um... in English, please." Miles requested, and the female laughed softly once more.
"Just call it a 'spider-sense.'" She answered. "Now come on, you're still trying to get to where I'm at..." Ghost-Spider picked up another brick, and Miles groaned inwardly as he got ready to dodge again...
Begrudgingly, Miles began to sit up in bed, hearing his back pop a few times as he winced from the uncomfortable sensations. He looked around his room, slowly getting reoriented to the whole 'being awake' thing as the comfort of his bed continued to silently beckon him to lie down again. Nope... gotta' get ready. You told Uncle Aaron you could hang with him today.
Miles swung his legs over the side of the bed and grabbed his phone off his nightstand. As the screen lit up, he saw a few unread messages-Ganke had sent him a reel from Instagram, his mother was asking him to hurry downstairs since his dad had to leave early, and Uncle Aaron had asked if Miles wanted a Jamaican Beef Patty when he got there. A grin crept onto Miles's face-of course Uncle Aaron would remember Miles's favorite snack. Uncle Aaron always used to bring one for Miles when he'd visit way back when...
First things first... Miles thought to himself, opening his mother's text before typing 'Getting ready, will be down in a bit,' and sending it. He then pulled up Uncle Aaron's message before typing, 'YESSS!!!' with a smile on his face. I'll look at Ganke's reel later... he's probably trying to get me to watch that dumb show again. Miles shook his head in amusement-he loved Ganke, but his best friend got way too overexcited about television.
For the time being, reached towards his nightstand again, retrieving his air pods before slipping them in his ears and opening Spotify on his phone. Of course, the first song that came up was 'Circles'.
