Chapter 14: Smiles And Surprises

•Pete's POV•

It's been almost 15 days since Jackie went into the coma. I'm freaking out. Patrick's freaking out. Abby's freaking out. Everyone's freaking out. I mean Mom and Dad are going to kill me! I just found out I had a sister 3 months ago, and now she's in a coma. We don't even know when she's going to wake up! I'm pacing in my room thinking about what life threw at me when all of a sudden my pocket starts vibrating.

"Hello?" I pick up my phone with out even looking at the caller ID.

"Yeah Pete? Jakayla's awake." An excited Patrick replies.

"Oh my God! Are you serious?" My stomach flip flops as I immediately start heading downstairs.

"Yeah dude! Get over here!" Patrick says with a chuckle.

"Okay I'll see you in a little bit." I grab my keys from the key bowl that sits by door. I'm so excited to see Jakayla again. I jump down the stairs and into my car. I can't wait to see her! I wonder if Abby knows! I scroll through my contacts before I see her number.

"Hey Abby? You there?" I ask trying to contain my excitement.

"Yeah what's up? Any news about Jackie?"

"Yup. Meet me at the hospital."
•Abby's POV•
My stomach sinks to the bottom of my feet. I hope she's okay. I hop into my car and take off towards the hospital. I wonder what Pete meant by saying there's news about Jackie. Oh my God. What if she died? No, she couldn't have. Pete would have been hysterical. I take a deep breath before I climb out of the old 2001 station wagon. I don't even have to ask the lady at the desk where Jackie's room is considering I spent almost every night there for the first week.
"Oh you're here! Won't you be happy when you leave!" She says before I head off down the hallway. What did she mean? I'll be happy? That will be a first. I haven't been happy since I found out Jacks was in the hospital. I quicken my pace down the long corridor. When I reach Jacks' room, I pause outside the door listening, making sure I don't hear crying.
"I love you Jacks. I always have, and I always will. I promise to stay here forever if I have to." Patrick? I push open the door to see Jacks sitting up in her bed, eyes open, and smiling like a valley girl. Hmmm, I'll have to ask her about that. Her eyes light up when she sees me.
"ABBY!" She screams in excitement. I run over to her bed, and engulf her in an awkward hug, as she's laying on her bed, and I'm still standing up.
"I'm so happy to see you!" I whisper in her ear as I hug her tightly.
"I'm so happy to see you too, but can you let me go cause I can't exactly breath!" She laughs as I pull away, not wanting to hurt her even more.
"Hey Patrick, can you give us a sec?" Jacks asks Patrick.
"Sure. I'll be right outside if you need anything." Patrick smiles at Jacks and I before leaving the room. As soon as the door shuts, I attack her with questions.
"So are Patrick and you dating now?" I fire at her.
"Maybe. . . maybe not. Actually I don't know." She replies sheepishly.
"Suuuuuuure." I say giggling. I look at her with a knowing smirk. My smirk turns into a smile quickly because now I know I have my best friend back again.
