•Pete's POV•
"When can we leave?" Jakayla asks me.
"As soon as the doctor checks you out, we can leave."
As soon as I say that, Jakayla's doctor walks in the room. "Jakayla. As soon as you are ready, you can leave. Peter, may I speak to you outside?"
"Um. Sure."
Doctor Jackson and I walk into the hallway. Doctor Jackson hands me a bottle of medicine for her pain. "Have Jakayla take two of these per day. One at breakfast and one at dinner. They will help with the pain. That is the only thing. Otherwise she is good to leave."
"Thank you, Doctor Jackson."
"No problem. I must leave. There is a new patient coming in today with signs of abuse. I need to check on her. So whenever Jakayla is ready to leave go to the front desk and they'll check her out."
Doctor Jackson runs in the direction of the E.R. and I walk back into Jakayla's room.
"So when can I leave, Pete?" Jakayla asks.
"Whenever you are ready, sis."
"Good. Patrick, you were saying something about having a kid?"
"Oh! Yeah. About five months ago, I adopted a girl around your age."
"What's her name?!?" Jakayla asks Patrick.
"Abigail."
"She's okay! I want to see her."
"Why? Do you know her?"
"Yeah. Abigail and I were best friends until she got adopted five months ago."
"So you are the Jakayla Abigail is always talking about. She says she misses you."
"She misses me. I miss her."
"Why don't we get you checked out then we can go and see her?" I ask.
"Yes. That sounds good."
Jakayla, Patrick, and I check her out and leave the hospital to go to Patrick's house.
