"Stand up and walk over here," Forkle's voice woke Sophie up in a solid ten seconds. "Stand up and walk over here, or I'll be forced to take more drastic measures."

In her haze of sleep, Sophie merely stared in confusion as Keefe got up and walked over, his eyes wide with panic. And then it dawned on her, as if a cold bucket of water had been dumped on her face.

"Wait, stop!" Sophie ran up to them, pulling Keefe away, her fingers tingling where her skin met his. Keefe must have felt it too, for there was a sharp warmth in her hand as he squeezed it tighter. "He's with me," she told Forkle, "In more ways than one."

He turned red with anger. "Why have you been fraternizing with the enemy?! I raised you better than this."

"No. Edaline and Grady raised me. You made me. But guess what? I quit. I'm not your little servant anymore, to use to fight your battles."

Forkle's face softened with guilt. "Sophie..."

"No. You brought this upon yourself. Now live with that." She dragged an open mouthed Keefe away, their fingers intertwined.

"From now on, we start over?" she asked him. Keefe was still in a stunned silence.

"You... gave up your old life... for me?"

"Not just for you. For me, too. It's a choice, that had to be made. We're just kids, not soldiers."

"I think..." Keefe began, "That you're exactly right."

And his mouth found her's in a tender embrace that left her gushing from head to toe. Sophie knew life from then on was not going to be easy. But it was going to be fun. And she planned on enjoying every. Last. Minute.
