Sophie tumbled out of the closet with a crash.
"Nice job, Keefe," Gisela grinned, "You got the enemy right where I need her." Sophie's gaze fluttered over to Keefe, betrayal stinging at her like a knife.
"Sophie- I swear I-I didn't know she was still alive." How could she trust him? With Gisela towering over her, grinning? But she decided, if she couldn't trust her soulmate, she couldn't trust anyone.
"I believe you," she whispered.
"Quiet!" Gisela shushed, "I don't need Fintan barging in. You're my prize. And a valuable one too, the Moonlark."
"Mom, get away from her," Keefe growled.
Gisela looked stunned. "What?!"
"Mom, she's my soulmate."
"And I really wanted to keep her alive," Gisela groaned, "But she'll make you weak."
Gisela pulled out a gun.
And shot Sophie through the heart.
At least that's what Gisela planned to do...
***
Less than a second. Keefe had less than a second to make a choice.
His mom?
Or Sophie? He couldn't leave the hideout with both. He eyed them both as his mom pulled out a gun, and he realized.
He could feel Sophie's emotions clear as day. Fear, shock, horror. All normal emotions. His mother? He could feel nothing. Nothing. Lady Gisela wasn't his mom, she was the lady who gave birth to him.
It was a decision Keefe desperately didn't want to make. But he grabbed a chair and hit her over the head. Hit Lady Gisela so hard, she was knocked unconscious.
The gunshot's aim missed, and Sophie scooted out of the way, stumbling to her feet.
"You know what this means?" he asked Sophie.
"We get out of here."
A/N: Look at me, being nice again!!!! Totally.
