The hot afternoon sun was beating down with a fury, giving the forest an ethereal, golden sheen. The tinkling of bells lingered in the air, which still smelled crisp from the previous day's rain, and it wouldn't take one long to realize that the bells were indeed not bells, but rather laughter, and that the rain was the work of a certain hydrokinetic who had gone out of her way to drench her friends. But in the center of the chaos a boy and girl stood hand and hand, smiling as if they were the only two in the world. And in that moment, they weren't quite wrong.

Elven weddings were usually big, fancy occasions filled with family, friends, and food. The three 'f's, as Edaline liked to call it. But today's bride and groom had opted for more of a small get together, with the few people they trusted the most. Tam sulked in the corner, still furious from being forced into a "Happy Shadow Thoughts" t-shirt, while Biana chattered his head off, her nails a sparkly pink that couldn't be missed from even miles away. They made an odd pair, the two, yet as Biana had predicted not so long ago, his name did indeed match his ability, and he was, surprisingly, the one with whom she was to spend her forever with. Lihn and Marella were having quite the bit of fun playing with fire, and though their friends wished it was just a figure of speech, it was unfortunately not, thus the wet, muddy forest floor. Despite being invited, Fitz and Dex were both off on special missions for the Black Swan and had to politely decline, along with Grady and Edaline, though Grady had made sure to send a note to the groom saying "You better treat my daughter damn well, or I'll come find you." Smooth, Grady, smooth.

Sophie was practically glowing under the giant spotlight that was the sun that afternoon, and her radiance was parallel only to that of Keefe's hair, which had undergone a torrent of washing, drying, and 'styling'. No, really, Keefe had spent hours on his hair. Sophie shuddered at the memory, and Keefe's smirk only grew as he guessed exactly what she was thinking. No, he hadn't become a telepath in the past ten years, but being an empath and the fact that Sophie wore all her emotions on her face was more than enough. After all, he had to be the one to know his wife best, no?

        BOOM.

The forgotten but all too familiar crack of a pistol had Sophie shutting her eyes and cringing at her own fear. Picking up on it, Keefe snapped to attention, only to burst into barely suppressed laughter.

"Foster, it's just a firework," he nudged, amusement glinting in his icy, yet somehow filled with warmth, blue eyes. She was still shaking, just a little, so even though the ceremony was over, Keefe pulled her close once more, his warm embrace enough for her to relax.

        "I'm right here, Foster."

        "Always?"

        "Always."
