The lazy sunshine of March had sprinkled all over Ranhbniz. Irwin was alone at home, for his parents had gone into the county center for an annual business conference. With nothing to do, Irwin laid on his bed mindlessly and started reading books.
The first one he read was To Kill a Mockingbird. Then The Catcher in the Rye. Then The Great Gatsby.
Then he got bored. There was nothing else left to do. Then he thought of Nameless. It had been a month since he last visited him. With no better time than now, Irwin went downstairs and opened the door.
Wait. He suddenly stopped. What if the others see me? There's been so many people hanging around the woods recently, and if they follow me, Nameless would be nothing but dead. They're gonna suspect me, since no one would like to go outside Ranhbniz territory.
No. He sadly closed the door and stepped back. Tensions are too high. I can't risk his life.
Disappointed, he dragged himself upstairs. The hunting team is searching down in the woods again, mindlessly firing. From the blanket of leaves at the top of the trees, birds flew, frightened, their terrible screeching piercing through the dark, gray sky.
The sound of people talking was everywhere. Irwin was glad some of their topics weren't about Nameless anymore, but probably because nothing happened lately.
From his room, he could hear his classmates playing soccer down somewhere near the rye field, their laughter echoing inside his ears.
But he didn't want to do anything. He didn't want to play with them. He didn't want to read books. He didn't even want to lie down or go to sleep. He just sat there on his bed, doing nothing, because he was feeling so... alone.
Whatever shall I do? He pondered. I've got no one to talk to, nothing to do, nothing to feel. I'm trapped inside this house, lost and lonely. The people got so much to complain and hate about, so many things to feel sad and angry for, Yet they will never understand this, for they will never understand how being the only one that protects the truth feels like. They'll never understand.
