Irwin starred as he watched Nameless run into the woods on the other side of the ranch Then he ran into the lifeless rye field and kneeled down.
Everything seemed so dark and sad. The trees were black and crooked, the flowers bowed down, the rye lost its golden hue, and the birds rose to the sky, screeching in terror, the sounds piercing through the depressed air.. The wind was freezing and hurt Irwin' skin. Life seemed to have disappeared around him, everything looked as if they were mourning something.
The men had finally arrived at the barn. Irwin raised his head and peeked at the ranch through a tiny space.
A woman, the one that had greeted him the day he and Nameless sat in the rye field, ran out of the barn to greet them. When she saw the guns on the men, she shook in fright.
"Well, may I ask what brings you here, gentlemen?" She asked. "You seem... aggressive."
Powell did not care about her politeness. "Have you seen a weak skinny guy? You may know him as Nameless. We're 'bout to kill that son of a bitch."
She was scared even more. "Yes, I have seen him. In fact, he works right here. And his name is Ralph. But what do you want to do with him? He"s such a ni-"
"Shut up, bitch!" Powell growled. "Where is he!"
"I don't know where he is right now. I don't know."
"Let me ask you again, WHERE IS HE!"
"Please! I don't know! I swear!"
"Where! Is! He!"
The woman stood shaking, yet determinedly. "That's it, even if I know I won't tell you heartless monsters. You just comin' out of nowhere onto my ranch to kill a good guy. I will not tell you, you pathetic things. Never."
Then there came a gunshot. The women thumped onto the ground, lying there, dead.
Irwin held his tears. He felt disgusted and extremely scared.
Then there came a man. He saw the corpse of the woman and screamed in fear.
"Heartless bastards! What have you done to my wife?"
Powell did not hesitate a bit to fire again.
The man fell, his body lying on top of his wife's.
Irwin almost fainted. It was till now that he finally saw the worst of humans — no, Powell wasn't a human.
He stopped breathing, kneeling hopelessly in the rye. Every bit of him was shaking, in sadness, in shock, in anger, in disgust and in fright.
Please, God. Let Nameless live. Let this be all over soon. Please, I beg you.
