I look out through a crack of the barricaded window; I can't stop the gasp escaping.

"Is that a bloody WERREWOLF?!" I exclaim.

Lucien stands behind me, looking over my shoulder at the figure stalking closer and closer to the porch.

"Yes, I'm afraid so." Lucien replies with a heavy scowl. I turn to him.

"You and I need to have a talk about what myths are actually true or not after this." I say, trying to lighten the increasingly heavy atmosphere. He sends me a small smile.

"I promise, love, once we are through this, I will answer all your questions." He tenderly pushes some lose hair behind my ear. "But for now, we need to prepare."

I look around, "How do we do that?" I look for some kind of weapon, finding nothing.

"I'm honestly not sure." He answers quietly. I can't stop the tremor of fear shooting down my spine.

It isn't long before we hear the sound of claws click-clacking on the wood of the porch. A low growl permeates the air. I can't help but look out the window again, I gasp, covering my mouth quickly when I see the furry snout with saliva dripping off sharp teeth pass through my vision. It stops directly in front of where I am, nose twitching. It sharply turns, directly looking at me causing me to stumble backwards, falling to the floor. My trembling gets worse. Lucien reaches down and helps me up.

"He saw me." I whisper to him. He turns his head to the door seconds before a loud banging starts, rattling the door on its hinges.

"Get behind me." Lucien says as he pushes me behind him, placing himself between me and the creature trying to break in.

I see Lucien's magic sparking between his fingers, preparing for the inevitable. The door starts to splinter, slightly opening as the lock breaks. I know it will only be seconds before it breaks through completely. I look frantically for something to arm myself with, finally grabbing the frypan we used for dinner just as the door gives way and the werewolf enters the small cabin. Lucien wastes not a second before he releases a blast of magic at the werewolf, causing its fur to singe. I watch in horror as it launches itself at Lucien with a mighty growl. The battle that ensues is fast and brutal, with Lucien using his magic and strength while the werewolf uses its claws and powerful strength. I have trouble following the fight, but it isn't long before it has Lucien trapped in a corner, stalking towards him. I don't even think. With a mighty scream I launch myself at the werewolf, pan held high, and hit is with all my might on the head. It is stunned, stumbling slightly before turning to me and hitting me with its mighty paw, sending me to the opposite wall.

"Tamryn!" I hear Lucien yell before he lets out a guttural growl, launching himself at the werewolf again. I am still laying on the floor, struggling to rise after the hit when I hear a pain yell. My heart nearly stops at the sound. I look up to see Lucien's arm bleeding from deep cuts caused by the viscous claws. As I watch in horror I see the werewolf pounce on Lucien, pinning him to the ground, snarling and growling into his face.

"NO!" I scream when I see this. I feel my power growing inside me, building to a blast that flies out of my centre and towards the werewolf. It feels like a pulse of pure energy, that when it hits the werewolf, he is violently thrown off Lucien. He bounces off the wall and lands on the floor in a lump. I hear pitiful whimpering coming from it. I collapse back to the ground, all my energy depleted. Lucien looks back at me amazed before turning back to the werewolf.

"I will take this outside and finish it. I'll be back soon love." He says, dragging the injured werewolf back out of the cabin.

I lay there for a few minutes, trying to process what just happened. I manage to sit up and prop myself against the wall. I am deep in thought when Lucien returns. He comes right to me, lifting my up as if I weigh nothing and carrying me to the bed, holding me in his arm.
