Andre parked his bike right outside the entrance to the New Orleans docks. He locked it up and wandered towards the guard shack that would be his home for the next 16 hours.
His uncle was a maintenance supervisor on days and had pulled some strings to get Andre the job. It was a good paying position and worked well with his school schedule.
He usually worked the 3 to 11 shift but the night shift guard really needed the night off and Andre couldn't turn down the 8 hours of overtime so he agreed to work a double.
His office was comfortable and more importantly air conditioning and there were no pickups after 10pm so the second half of his night would be nice and quiet.
He got settled in and filled out his log book. It was a Friday so the first 4 or 5 hours would be hectic, but it would definitely be downhill from that point on.
Things slowed down around 930pm. Andre did a security patrol around the perimeter of the facility and headed back to his office to eat the gumbo his grandmother had packed for him.
