The moment he saw his sisters, he just felt everything was slightly better now. But watching Esther's now scornful gaze, mixing in with Rose's elated, optimistic eyes, it made some pain settle into his heart.
"Esther, Rose, I—" Mordecai stepped forward, only for Esther to rear her fist back and launch it into his stomach.
"Can it, Mordecai!" She hissed out, shoving him back. "Why the hell did you leave?!"
"Woah, woah, let's keep it civil!" Mr. Sweet exclaimed, hands up. He gently pulled away Esther from Mordecai, noticing her claws lashing out.
"Esther, I can assure you that my intentions were not out of malicious—oof!" Mordecai began, when Rose immediately hugged her older brother tightly. She squealed.
"I missed you, Mordy!" Rose giggled, and Mordecai awkwardly—and distractedly—patted her head.
"I–the feeling is mutual, Rose, now excuse me—" Mordecai tried gently pulling away.
"No! You are going to let her hug you! You will not pull away!" Esther scolded, eyes narrowing, pointing her index finger at him.
"If you would let me explain—" Mordecai was cut off yet again.
"Du hast uns verlassen, du hast Mama verlassen! Was war dein dummer Grund?!" Esther spoke viciously, her ears flattening against her skull. Mordecai scoffed.
"Wenn Sie mich erklären lassen, würde es Sinn machen." He remarked.
"Warum sind Sie dann gegangen?" Rose chimed in, tilting her head to the side.
"...Unangenehme Umstände, Schwester." Mordecai whispered.
"Err, pardon the interruption..." Mr. Sweet cut in, and the three tuxedo cats snapped their gazes towards him. "...what exactly are you three speaking of?"
"It is no concern, Mr. Sweet." Mordecai spoke in English now, reassuring in a slightly calmer tone.
"Mordecai over here went dayroom on us and left." Esther summarized with a quip.
"Esther!" Mordecai chided.
"Dry up, jerk!"
"Esther, please, there is no need for vulgar insults."
For this occasion, it's necessary." Esther huffed. "Now, I'll ask again: why. Did. You. Leave."
"...I'll leave you three alone." Mr. Sweet decided, stepping out of the office to give them some time alone. While doing so, he turned to walk down the hall...only to be greeted by a cloth to the mouth, and a tight hold onto him. He tried to scream, but it was muffled, and he was inhaling a scent of bleach.
"Shhh, fat cat~" Lacrimosa whispered in his ear, pressing the cloth to his mouth tightly. "Be lulled to sleep~" And when she opened her mouth again, she began to sing her siren song.
"My dear dolly Polly, shut your eyes," She urged, pressing the cloth against his muzzle tighter. Mr. Sweet clawed at her, but to no avail. Lacrimosa growled, baring her fangs.
Lie still, lie silent,
Utter no cries as the Witch,
Brave and bold,
Paid in coin of gold~"
Her hands ran along Mr. Sweet's hair, smiling deviously as his knees buckled. She waved over James and Raquelle, and that was all Mr. Sweet saw before blacking out.
"He'll chop and slice,
He'll cut and dice,
He'll eat...you...up whole." She giggled, then whispered into his ear,
