Kim's pov:

The next 4 hours felt like an eternity.

I just sat there, staring off into space while Khun hugged me close to himself.

And then, the doors finally opened and Beam came out.

We both shot up at the same time.

His grim expression made my heart drop to my stomach.

"Beam...?" I muttered softly, not able to keep the pleading from lacing my tone.

"The dosage was very high. And time had passed since he had taken it when you brought him in even. He started seizing because it was starting to reach his vital organs. It was spreading fast because of the high dosage. By the time we managed to counter it, it had already managed to reach his heart." He started.

It reached... His heart...

It felt as if my whole world was falling apart around me as I processed his words and their implications.

"After a lot of effort, we were able to save him. But... The damage has already been done. I've inserted a permanent pace maker to keep his heart going. His right kidney had also failed so we had to remove it as well. We barely managed to save his liver and lungs before they shut down completely. He needs a breathing tube all the time from now on. His lungs can't function without support. His body has weakened a lot. It can shut down at any moment. I can't guarantee a long life." He added.

"How... Long?" I asked slowly, voice soft and shaky.

"At most, 1 year. Even that is a stretch. He might not even last 6 months." He answered.

My knees gave out under me and I fell, only to be caught by strong arms.

1 year... Maybe not even 6 months...

I was pulled to sit on the chair as I tried to process all the information.

"Is there nothing we can do?" I could hear Khun asking.

"No, I'm sorry. At this point, there's nothing more we can do. His organs are close to collapsing. The only thing we can do is provide support and medication to try and postpone it as much as possible." Beam.

Nothing more we can do...

Can't save him...

"What about transplant?" I heard Pol ask.

"There are too many damaged organs to do that. And his body is too weak to handle any kind of transplant. Much less for such vital organs."

He's going to die...

I was too late...

I'm going to lose him...

My vision started fading as I felt my body give out.

Their voices became more distant and muffled as I felt my consciousness sinking.

I fell forward as my eyes fell shut.

The last thing I felt was being caught before I hit the floor.

And everything went black.

I stared at him silently as I sat on the chair beside the bed he was on.

He had a breathing tube inserted into his neck with the strap going around his throat.

Countless wires were connected to him which were monitoring his vitals.

His skin looked pale and the dark circles under his eyes stood out like a sore thumb.

I looked at the heart monitor that was on the other side.
