Nothing really changed when Amy found out Shadow had a girlfriend.

Alright, that was a lie.

She knew that sooner or later that kind of thing was meant to happen. Shadow is one of the heroes of Mobius. His personality may be misinterpreted but he has a good heart. Anyone with the right mind would think he is a catch.

And he absolutely is.

They have been best friends for three years now. The story of how their friendship bloomed would be told at another time.

However, Amy can't pinpoint when exactly she started to develop feelings for Shadow or if it was just a sudden feeling. Maybe if she thinks deeply enough, she could remember. But now thinking about him hurts.

"Why the long face?"

The pink hedgehog has been distracted recently. So much that she forgot that she was at work. Her actual work. The Resistance was just something she did in her free time. But she still needs to pay the bills in some way or another.

"You know the bread doesn't taste good if it's made with a sad heart," Vanilla said.

Amy works at Vanillas' bakery. She helps her bake all kinds of desserts. Sweet bread, cookies, brownies, and strawberry shortcakes, among other things. She enjoys it, it's definitely better than the office work she has to do back at HQ.

"I am sorry, I've been feeling kind of off. That's all," Amy says as she tries her best to smile. "But I promise I'll try to make the bread extra fluffy!"

Amy carries a batch of bread, ready to be put in the oven.

"Does this have to do with Shadow?"

Amy almost drops the batch but she quickly catches it. Her impulse made it impossible for Vanilla not to notice the truth. That Shadow is somehow having control of her feelings.

"I ..." Amy makes a small pause and looks at Vanilla. She knows she can't hide it from her. "Maybe."

"I heard he recently started dating someone. Are you worried about his girlfriend?"

Vanilla takes a sit on the kitchen table and signals Amy to do the same. The pink one sits in front of the rabbit.

"No, I think she's great but-"

"But you wish you were in her place, correct?"

Amy's quiet and she feels a knot form down her throat.

"Is it that obvious?" Amy's voice cracks and a few tears are forming in the corner of her eyes. "I am sorry."

"Oh, honey, don't apologize," Vanilla moves her chair closer to Amy and embraces her delicately. "It's alright, let everything out."

"I shouldn't have fallen in love with him," Amy can't control the tears from coming out of her eyes. She feels like there is missing in her lungs and her heart beats rapidly. "He is my best friend. It's my fault."

"We can't control with whom we fall in love with," Vanilla uses a clothe to clean Amy's tears. "Don't you think it will do you good if you tell Shadow?"

"No, that would just ruin the friendship," Amy hiccups a little as her voice continues to break. "I just want to get over these feelings quietly. I think need some time away from everything."

"I don't think it's good to keep these feelings to yourself. But I understand if you need time to figure out what you need to do."

She took the first train to Spring Village. Amy told Vanilla that if anyone tries looking for her, to tell them to not worry and that she will be back in a couple of days. And of course to not look for her.
