It was colder than Amy expected. She trembled from time to time and the thought of getting closer to the fire was out of the questions since getting any closer would mean the possibility of burning her clothes.

Our pink lady wanted nothing but to concentrate on the bonfire in front of her, but she knew that this would be futile.

Shadow.

It was as if he wanted her to talk, to say something about their current situation. To explain why she was here and for him to also talk about his presence on the old base.

After Shadow showed up, Amy was so in shock that she went back to sit behind the bonfire. The black hedgehog followed her and sat in front of her. Watching the pink one appreciate the flames of the bonfires, not saying anything ... Just there, sitting, watching the bonfire as if he didn't exist.

After a year, this is how they meet. Black and pink hedgehogs sitting around a bonfire inside an old abandoned Eggman base. Not sharing a word.

"So ... How are you?"

If Shadow could, he would have shot a Chaos Spear at himself for asking such as a stupid question. But what else could he ask? What else was he supposed to do in these situations? Last time they had talked, Amy tried to confess her 'feelings' towards him and he didn't accept them. There were two main reasons why he didn't accept them ... But at the moment he didn't want to face them.

"Good, thank you."

Amy still couldn't believe what was going on. And her words just came to her automatically. She still didn't dare to look at him in the eyes. Her heart didn't know how to feel either. Should she feel sad? Angry? Happy? There was a part of her that wanted to cry but she still didn't know why. Maybe she was just hallucinating, maybe this was just a dream.

It was to be, there was no way Shadow was in front of her, acting so calmly.

There were many things that she wanted to ask him. But questions nor words could not be created on her mind.

Instead, she opted for the best option at the moment.

Sleep.

She laid down on her small camping bed and turned around to give her back to Shadow. A certain warmness ran through her body as she felt the heat of the bonfire touch her back.

"Goodnight." She said.

"Goodnight."

Shadow was internally fighting with himself. It was if a greater force was telling him to go next to her and hug her. Nonetheless, his morality told him he couldn't. When the black hedgehog left the Resistance, he had been used to the pink one's presence. He would see her everywhere or just even hear about her and that was enough for him to make him happy. And now they were like this. They used to be so close ... Shadow would even sneak up in the middle of the night to sleep with Amy. They would share everything, the room, the food, they would only go to missions together. But now? They were complete strangers.

What had changed?

Sonic the Hedgehog.

Shadow let out an angry sigh at thought of the blue one's name. It was because of Sonic that Amy and he were in this current situation. If he had never appeared, if only Amy had never dated him ... Shadow could have been free of hugging Amy right at this moment.

A soft sound caught Shadow's interest. He looked at the pink lady in front of him. Amy was trembling a little, and soft mumbles were heard as Shadow could clearly tell that Amy was suppressing her cries.

Amy was crying ... And there was not a thing he could do about it.

Maybe it wasn't Sonic's fault ... But his alone. If he just didn't run away, if he just knew what his feelings were telling him ... If he didn't date Maria ... Then maybe ...
