When Sonic came back to the Resistance, the last thing he expected was to find out that Amy was nowhere to be seen. He knew that winter was coming but for it starts snowing so early in the fall wasn't something he was used to. The Resistance as looking fine a bit chaotic since it had been a long time since Amy had left for a mission.

"So, you can't get in contact with her?"

Sonic was talking to Tails on his workshop. After finishing his mission of finding a Chaos Emerald, the blue bur thought he would come to the Resistance and have a nice rest with his pink partner. Only to find that his pink lady was gone for the first time since ... him.

"Unfortunately no, but I did receive a message from her yesterday night." Tails said as he looked over the blue hedgehog. His computer in front of him. "She said that the abandon Eggman base she went to explore had some strange activities, that someone had used the computer in there and get some files ... The good news is that I was able to track the exact location the message was sent from."

At hearing that, Sonic felt a sense of relief but it wasn't enough to make him feel good.

The walk to the next village was silent for most of the time. It was hard for Amy to move with the heavy snow falling on her shoulder and feet. It wasn't like she hated snow but she hated the fact that it melted and became water due to the heat of her body. They had been walking for a couple of hours already and Amy only looked at Shadow as he walked in front of her.

She had lost her sense of time and didn't know how many hours has it been since they started walking. It was strange how quiet it had gotten, especially because there were days in which Shadow and she would talk all the time. They would have the smallest of conversations from time to time as well but nothing like this. It was as if they were complete strangers and in all honesty, Amy thought that this was better.

And even when her mind told her that this was the way things are supposed to do ... her heart had hope that he will turn around and declare a false love that he didn't obviously feel.

"Amy?"

Shadow turned around to face the pink hedgehog who had an evident surprise look on her face. This concerned him a little but he came to the conclusion that she was in deep thought and had startled her a little.

"Yes?" Amy asked as she noticed that Shadow had stopped walking. They had reached a hill and Amy wonder where would Shadow take her from here next.

"We are going to stay in this village for the night." The black hedgehog pointed at Cotton Village. " Let's rest for the night here, tomorrow afternoon we should be reaching Flower Village."

Amy softly nodded, it was the best idea and in all honesty, Amy couldn't wait to find a warm place to sleep in, she was too tired of the cold for today.

When they arrived at a small inn Shadow and Amy weren't even surprised that find out that there was only one room available. Things like this happened, of course when Amy doesn't want to see him, she is going to be stuck with him for the whole night.

The good news is that they had their separate beds, so she won't be sleeping on the floor.

The room was only big enough for two beds, a restroom, and a small chimney which was really needed because due that the room was made out of wood, it was really cold. The walls are painted white and there was a small window in which Amy could see the snow slowly falling down.

And now, there they were.

Amy seated on the edge of her bed, next to the window. And Shadow who was seated on his bed as well. It was quite and for a moment Amy wished there was something else making a sound. Anything but the awkward silence filling the room.

"So, how are things at the Resistance?"

Shadow's voice caught her off guard but she was thankful that he asked about the Resistance and not about their current situation.

"They are fine," she simply said, still looking out the window.

"That's good to hear."

Again, silence filled the room and it only took a few seconds for Shadow to ask something else.

"Aren't you going to ask me about me and Maria's well being?"

"Why should I?" Amy asked, a bit offended by his question. "You are the ones who left, never even bothered calling."

"Why bother calling if you are too busy with Sonic to ever pay attention to someone else?"

Amy turned her head with a snap, now she wasn't only offended but angry. She faced Shadow and he did the same.

"This isn't about Sonic and even if that were the case, what would be the problem?"

"That is the problem! Everything went to hell the moment you started dating Sonic."

"What? No, everything went to hell when you started dating Maria!"

Amy stood from the edge of the bed and walked towards Shadow. She sat on the other side of the bed this time, facing him completely.

"No, it didn't. It was you who changed," Shadow did the same thing, he faced Amy this, not thinking on back out. "I wanted to keep doing the same things we used to do but you stared to distance yourself. Especially since you dated that blue bastard."

"No, I changed because I couldn't stand seeing you with Maria when I was completely in love with you!"

Vermillion eyes stared intensely at emerald eyes. For a moment only the two of them existed in the world. The moment wasn't awkward, it was intense.

And the only thing that went through Shadow's mind was how much he missed her eyes. Her angry eyes, even if she directed them towards him.

And how her cheeks blushed when she confused him.

"If you loved me ... Then why did would you want to be with Sonic?"

"Because you loved Maria ... Because you still do."

Then, he saw it. The pain in her emerald eyes. If there was only one way in which he could make her happy again. If there was a way where they could go back to time and fix all the mistakes they did.

Maybe there was a way.

Shadow stood up and went walked closer to Amy. When he was finally in front of her, he bent down to his knees. Her hands were in her tighs and Shadow softly grabbed them. She was looking down but the act made her look at Shadow who was underneath her. Just a few seconds from each other.

With one hand, Shadow caressed her cheek, making her come closer to his face. They were completely lost in each other's eye's and there was no stopping them as they slowly began to get a little closer.

Shadow missed her touch, her being. Amy missed his smell, his soft stern whenever he looked at him. They needed each other, they wanted each other.

What was stopping them?

Nothing.

Because at the moment, nothing matter, no one matter but them.

Nothing but the vermillion and green eyes slowly closing as they let themselves go. Getting lost in each other's soul.

And they kissed.
