The Change Book I & II

The Change II: Ch.3

 Sonic and Maria were sitting down on one of the restaurant's table. It was snowing, heavy enough to stop any human traffic from walking on the streets of the village. The blue hedgehog will be lying if he didn't say that the situation wasn't awkward. He knew Maria but not to an intimate level and if he was completely honest the only thing he knew about her was that they were friends.

"So, how are you and Shadow doing?" Sonic asked as took a sip of his hot chocolate.

"We are fine, we've been on the move constantly as we are looking for the Chaos Emeralds," Maria said and for an instant, Sonic felt like something was wrong with her.

"I see, it must be nice to go on adventures with your boyfriend ... I've been wanting to go on adventures with Amy but-" the blue one stopped himself. He didn't want to give too much information on Amy's life, especially to someone he barely knew. "But we just been busy, but tell me ... Why are you and Shadow looking for the Chaos Emeralds?"

"It's a secret," she replied.

Alright, this was getting strange. On his last mission, Sonic had found one of the Chaos Emeralds. But now that he found Maria suspicious, he decided to hide that fact.

A few seconds passed were they only stared at each other's drinks. sonic didn't want to ask but seeing that it was the only option to break the silence, he decided to bring up the one million dollar question.

"So ... Where is Shadow?"

They were close to Flower Village but the heavy snow had slowed them down a little. They didn't talk much, nor were planing too. It was just a simple kiss, a formal contact in a relationship.

Amy didn't even dare to ask why he did it. The kiss lasted around three seconds before she pulled away. She could' say she enjoyed it, especially because she felt like she was betraying Sonic if she says she did.

And here she was, walking through the streets of the small town of Flower Village. Heavy snow and windy, it was becoming even difficult to breathe.

And even so, Amy didn't want to get there. Mostly because she didn't know where Shadow as taking her. To a hotel? To his and Maria's home? Hopefully, it wasn't the last instance because she wouldn't know how to react.

"We are almost there,"

Shadow's voice was normal, he didn't show any emotion and he acted as nothing happened. Maybe it was better this way.

But another part wanted to talk about it.

She shook her head. Getting her rid of her thoughts. She couldn't afford that. No, Shadow belongs to Maria and she belongs to Sonic. Besides, Shadow left her for a year. How could she ever forget that Shadow left her when she confessed her feelings for her? That's right ... The pain ... It was still there.

"About the kiss,"

Shadow came to a sudden halt. And the act surprised the pink hedgehog. There was a small amount of light coming from the nearby houses and shops. But she could still appreciate his face. His bright vermillion eyes as he turned around to face her.

"You can forget it, I didn't mean to do it."

Did Shadow ever measure how heavy his words were? How could he say that so simply? With his face showing calmness, with him being so emotionless. Did he know how much it hurt her? To have hope and it being taken away? Did he even know ... Just how much she still loved him?

"You know, somehow ... You still end up disappointing me," Amy's voice shook a little as she tried to hold back the tears. "I am angry at you ... but I am angry at myself more because it seems not to matter how much of an idiot you are ... I still have feelings for you."

Amy walked towards the hedgehog, the snow slowing her down a bit. But still, she remained strong. "I tried everything ... Not thinking about you, pretend you never existed, be with Sonic and-"

Suddenly the pink hedgehog felt Shadow's hands being placed on her shoulders. He had a strong grip, but it didn't hurt.

"What do you mean by ... 'be with Sonic?" He asked and Amy's cheeks turned red. She was thought she was being obvious with her statement and a part of her knew that Shadow was aware of that too.

"Don't look at me like that! I am sure you did it with Maria as well," Amy looked away as she tried not to look at Shadow's judging face.

"So, are you telling me ... You and Sonic ... sleep together?"

"We have been dating for a year, so of course we would want to-" Amy stopped for a second and watched Shadow's face become softer. His eyes looked down, his face had a frown and his ears were lowered. She wasn't sure what he was feeling, but it was evident that it affected him. "Hey ... Don't do that! I am sure you and Maria have done it too so why are you making me feel bad-"

"I waited,"

Shadow suddenly looks up, staring at Amy's emerald eyes. "We haven't done anything because ... I had hope that we ..."

Their hearts began to beat fasters. Shadow didn't say anything but he had already expressed so much.

For the first time, Amy knew ... Just exactly what he was feeling. His eyes, his mannerism, the way he was getting closer to her slowly. With the hope that they could be together. That they could forgive, that they could finally ... finally ...

Be together.

He was tender as he placed his lips against hers. He slowly placed his hands around her waist as he brings her closer to his body. Amy opened her mouth slowly, letting his tongue explore her mouth and if she was being completely honest, she felt like she could melt. Her knees melted, her heart about to explode and although she knew this was wrong, she knew that this was what her heart wanted.

What they wanted.

They parted for a second, as they stared at each other's eyes. Both of them lost in the moment as nothing existed. No problems, no time, only them. Only the sound of their heartbeats on rhythm with the falling snow.

"Amy?"

His voice broke her trance, this had to be a dream. A nightmare even.

She slowly turns around, forgetting about what had happened a few moments ago. Reality had hit her and there was no escaping from it now.

"Shadow?"

He saw her too and Shadow felt horrible, guilty and once again he remembered. The reason why he couldn't be with Amy. The reason why he has to deny his feelings, the reason he can't accept them.

Sonic and Maria were there, standing. Watching the pink and black hedgehog being close to each other.

What else could go wrong?

A/N: I am sorry for not updating but I've had problems recently. Again a short chapter but I think I prefer it this way. Short chapters but I will be updating every week. Please keep in mind that I also do the Spanish translation by myself and that takes a lot of time. So, sorry if the chapters are not that long. This is not a popular story either so I don't get motivated to write sometimes haha.
