SNOW NEVER DETERRED SANYU from her duties. The streets lay buried beneath a thick, heavy blanket of white, but she carried on as usual. With her trusty glider, she soared above the icy roads, chasing criminals as if it were just another day.
Gliding had always been her favorite part of the job. As a police officer, it gave her an edge──swift, nimble, and unhindered by traffic. There was a thrill in flying through the city, weaving between towering skyscrapers, zipping through hidden alleys. On days like this, when the snow turned the streets into a treacherous maze, her ability to take to the skies felt like an even greater advantage.
Today, the snowfall forced her to wear goggles. Even the smallest flakes could blur her vision, and she needed sharp eyes for the chase ahead. Unlike most, she never bothered with scarves or thick cloaks. Her father had taught her long ago that an airbender could keep warm through controlled breathing──a skill that allowed her to endure even the harshest winters.
As her glider sliced through the frosty air, she spotted her target──a robber speeding away in a car. The vehicle skidded wildly around a corner, its tires struggling for traction on the ice. Sanyu adjusted her course with a sharp tilt, honing in on the fleeing criminal.
The driver had no idea she was there, too focused on his desperate escape. Sanyu, however, was relentless. She maneuvered through the snowy cityscape with ease, her glider carrying her closer with each second. The rush of adrenaline reminded her why she loved this job, despite its dangers.
The car hit an icy patch and swerved. Sanyu seized her chance. She dove low, landing directly in its path. The driver slammed the brakes, the tires shrieking against the slick pavement as snow sprayed in all directions. Startled, the robber threw the door open and bolted.
But he wasn't fast enough.
Sanyu lunged forward, cutting off his escape. In one smooth motion, she disarmed him and pinned him to the ground. His struggles were futile──her training had prepared her for far worse. Within moments, he was restrained and subdued.
As the snow continued to fall, Sanyu took a moment to catch her breath. Frost flecked her goggles, and her cheeks burned from the cold and the chase. Yet, she couldn't help the swell of pride in her chest. Despite the freezing temperatures, despite the treacherous conditions, she had done her job. The city was safe, at least for now.
