I grabbed her hand on the Drop Tower and gripped it harder than ever before. Slowly but surely we were being lifted into the air, about to drop down at any second.
"There's something I need to tell you." I confessed.
"What?" She asked, worry in her eyes.
She must've noticed my shaking.
"I've always been scared to go on this ride because I have a fear of heights." I admitted.
"What?! Wait we need to get you off!"
Just before she could do anything I interrupted her. I closed my eyes shut tightly and let my neck droop, not wanting to look down.
"But I came up here today because you wanted to and I didn't want to go on any other ride without you right by my side."
"What? Listen we really need to stop the ride." She insisted.
"The truth is..." I hesitated before admitting it.
"I like you!" I shouted at the top of my lungs.
I saw the shock on her face as we were dropped to the ground at a rapid speed. The shock never left her face even after the ride was over. I grabbed her hand and pulled her up after the staff had removed her protection.
"Man my ears are really messing with me today." She said, forcing a laugh.
I frowned.
"She doesn't like me back does she?"
I went home that day completely wrecked. I had admitted my feelings for her, which I'd never have done before, but there was a secret I was keeping from her and I didn't want to wait until it was too late.
I had cancer. I was going to die no doubt. The doctors suspected I had a year or two left. When I found out the first thing I thought of was her and how I wanted her to know how I felt before I left, but clearly she didn't like me back. It hurt. I wouldn't admit it but it did.
"You did it! I saw your acception letter! I'm so happy!" My little brother yelled as I stepped through the door.
Pure excitement was on his face. He seemed to be even happier about it than I was.
I had applied for a college in another country because it was just what I was looking for. I wanted to master in Biology since I was always really fond of it. Now that I was accepted I could put my plan into motion. I considered rejecting it since I was going to die anyways, but a part of me wanted to go.
I would be leaving in two weeks time.
I went into my room and rested my head against my desk, sighing loudly. Suddenly I got a call.
"Hello." I answered, scared of what she might say.
"Hi..." She was silent for a few minutes.
"Did you...mean what you said?" She asked.
I gulped.
"Every word." I answered truthfully.
"Could we...try?"
My eyes lit up and I could feel my heart beating a thousand times faster.
"Yes!" I said excitedly.
I instantly piped down when I remembered.
"Oh...but I got accepted into the college I applied for." I told her, wondering how she'd respond.
"You did? That's amazing!"
I already knew she was smiling on the other side of the phone. If only I was there to see it.
"Yes but...don't you see the problem?" I asked warily.
