It was weird to be back. Even after only a few weeks, Ronnie felt a real culture shock being back in the human realm.
They were back in the same suite- turns out it was actually the royal family's private suite to use when they needed to be here. Brock explained they had a number of similar setups in other hub cities around the world.
Brock had been able to get them some alone time- using their marking as a need for the three to spend some time together and that he would use his time here to see what information they could find about Kainon. He didn't say what his mother's reaction had been to the news, but Brand and Ronnie could only guess it hadn't been great. Neither of them were looking forward to facing her again.
Brock and Brand thought it was better to keep Ronnie here for the time being until they worked through what her being a demon meant. She hadn't gone to the club but had let Bobby know she was back and okay.
They were sitting in the living space, Brock and Brand explaining in turn how they coexist with their beasts.
"So, they speak to you?" She asked.
"Not really..." Brock thought about how to explain it. "It's like, he's there and I feel what he feels and wants."
"Have you ever wanted two things at once?" Brand asked.
Ronnie laughed wickedly. "All the time."
Both men's arousal spiked at that but Brand stayed on track. "It can be like that, but ultimately while we can be influenced by what they want, it is us that makes the final call. Again, sort of. We're not actually separate."
"But at the same time you are..." Ronnie said. She thought she kind of understood. She thought about what it was like every day, her wants and needs, the decisions she makes. Sometimes they were easy and sometimes she felt pulled in different directions. Sometimes she fought and won and sometimes she didn't.
"Isn't that kind of how everyone is though? Shifter or not?"
"Yes, though we have a specific being that dwells in us that plays a part."
"So what about when you shift or when I hear them speak through you."
Brand was nodding, liking how she was picking up this information. "That's when they are more in the driver's seat, so then we do the influencing- but importantly we are still in control. They just take the lead on an instinctual level."
"Right... do they have their own names?" She couldn't believe she'd never asked these questions before.
Both men chuckled. "Some shifters do name them. The wolves for one," Brand explained. "The cat clans do not see us as different entities."
"And dragons don't have names." Brock added. "They are ancient creatures. No one can define them so easily."
"I think I'm getting this." Ronnie said excitedly. "So they are other than you but as much a part as the you you?"
Both men nodded.
"So my demon is me me, and I can let her have free reign." She thought about what she let happen to her inner demon. There had been times she'd given into Kainon, throwing her demon in harm's way, just so she could disassociate.
"I haven't been a very good friend to her," she mumbled.
"Let's practice," Brand suggested, "Close your eyes and feel for her."
Ronnie did as instructed. She was sitting cross legged on the couch opposite to them. She recalled that night when she'd gone down on them right in this spot and they had returned the favour and then some. She couldn't help but smile at the memory.
