Hello Severus,
To be honest, I don't know whether you will be happy about this letter at all, but I hope so. I miss you.
Unfortunately, I discovered that a lot has changed here in the last year. My return to the ministry did not go as I had hoped. I would be happy if I could tell you all about it over a glass of wine. There's news I want you to know.
Lysanna
After about five failed attempts, Lysanna had finally written a few lines that she was happy with. She had borrowed her landlord's great brown owl to send the letter to Hogwarts. For a moment, Lysanna had thought about the appropriate farewell, but after "With love" seemed too cheesy, "Kind regards" seemed more than inappropriate and "See you soon" seemed a little too demanding, she simply signed the letter with her name .
In addition to her own address, the recipient's address was also written on the envelope
Professor Severus Snape
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Lysanna really didn't know how he would react to this letter, but secretly she really hoped that he would be happy to hear from her. She missed him very much and the more concrete Lysanna's decision became, the more she let her feelings for him come to the fore again. It only seemed more than appropriate for her to first talk to Severus about the fact that she actually intended to return to Hogwarts for the next school year before informing Dumbledore about it. She wanted to prevent Severus from finding out about it from him.
The owl waited impatiently at the window until Lysanna put the letter in its beak and opened the window. With a few silent but powerful flaps of its wings, the animal disappeared into the darkness of this evening. Now she had to wait and see. There were almost exactly three weeks left until the start of the new school year, three weeks in which Lysanna still had a lot to do.

The rain pounded incessantly against the soot-yellowed window panes, the weak light from the street lamps filtered in and, in combination with the countless drops of water, created strange shadows that danced around the walls. Severus sat in his chair, staring at the wall and continuing to try to do the very thing he hadn't been able to do since the holidays began. He had to forget about Lysanna, somehow push away these feelings that still felt far too present. It seemed like it had only been a few hours ago when he had stood in the headmaster's office and taken one last look into her reddened, sad blue eyes. He missed her, he needed her, but he couldn't have her and that was driving him mad. The anger didn't help with the discipline he needed to control his emotions.
There were days when he wondered why he hadn't just committed to her. Why hadn't they just tried it? Today was one of those days. The knowledge that Lysanna was out there somewhere, alive and possibly still thinking about him, made him think. Why hadn't he allowed himself to have these feelings? He could possibly have been with her at that exact moment, seen her smile, but instead he had sent her away. He was alone. Severus wouldn't have said it was easy for him to live with this unrequited love after Lily's death, but he had found a way. Lily was dead, taking with her to her grave everything she might have ever felt for him. But Lysanna? Lysanna was alive. She was still there, she was breathing, she was laughing, she was feeling, she was loving. Never before had anyone expressed such feelings towards him, never before had a woman as fascinating as Lysanna been interested in him. It was something completely different than with Lily. Not only was it different, it was probably just impossible. He simply couldn't forget her as long as he knew she was out there somewhere. This painful realisation was gnawing at him, he had truly believed that he would simply forget her, that he would be able to simply not think about the fact that she was still here and still had feelings for him.
