**We arrived at the drive-in movies**
Once we took our seats I turned to Ponyboy who was sitting to my right.
"We didn't even pay. I feel like we should have paid." I said in a whisper so Dally, who was sitting on my left, couldn't hear me.
"It's okay Jess we do this all the time. Don't worry." Pony replied with a wink.
"So Jess. Do ya want a coke or popcorn?" Johnny asked looking over Dallas. I wasn't really hungry or thirsty. I wondered if it was rude of me to say no.
"Nah, but I'll go get some with you if ya want."
"Um. Okay then." Johnny looked red in the face. I hope I didn't embarrass him. Gosh I'm such a worrier. As we walked to the concession stand Johnny stayed quiet. Why was he so quiet?!
"So Johnny, how long have you known the guys?" I asked feeling stupid. I already knew the answer to the question but for some reason it came out of my mouth.
"Since forever." Johnny said with a smile. "I'm sorry I'm so quiet Jess. It's just I really didn't want to come tonight."
"Well why did you then?"
"Because I don't want to go home with my parents always fighting. That or my dad beating me and my mom telling me I deserve it."
"I'm sorry. I didn't know." I replied with the saddest face I think I have ever made.
"It's okay. You didn't know. I just want someone to know what I'm being put through." Johnny said giving me an even sadder look. I felt really bad for him. Not because of his home life but because I knew how he felt.
"I know exactly how you feel Johnny. Don't worry." He looked back at me remembering what I had said earlier.
Once we paid for the popcorn and coke we went back to our seats and finished the movie. .
