Several hours later, you both trekked up the stairs with a few books each and walked into your library. You rummaged around, grumbling and gathering materials.

"What are you doing?" Dean asked as you banged around in the hallway's closet.

"Grabbing things we need. We're improvising a spell to hone in on your brother's location. You're gonna think I'm crazy, but hear me out, my mistress showed me pagan magick rituals. Real.. um, magicky ones." you explain clumsily.

Dean pauses for a moment as he sets down the books. "Uh, ok...? Like... are we talking Cinderella or he-man?" He asks gruffly. You laugh and bump your head, shouting. You stand up with a nervous smile.

"Uh... I'd say he-man. No magic wand here." I say sarcastically. Dean smiles, chuckling softly to himself, before turning and looking around. His eyes scanned the books in your library, these much newer, and far less dusty. His eyes wandered across the leather-bound section and the paperbacks, smiling softly as he saw some young adult novels perched delicately next to your reading nook. Seems you were one for fantasy.

"So um, I'll need your help with a few things..." You say, looking down at a list in your hands as you wander back into the room, piling everything you procured onto the floor.

"Uh, ok..." Dean said softly, looking at you unsurely. "With... what, exactly?"

"Well, here's where it sounds a little sketch, in the sense that... well, I need some of your blood, or hair or uhm, DNA, basically, and something of Sam's that he uses a lot, or holds dear. Preferably something wearable." You say, arranging the crystals and strange talismans in a circle.

Dean stared for a moment before hesitantly opening his lips to speak. "You're right, it does sound a little... sketch. But I've done worse for less, so... uh," Dean reached up and plucked a hair from his head, "Here. I'll go grab one of Sam's shirts from his suitcase."

You nodded and waited patiently. When Dean came back, he had a necklace of some sort in his hand.

"I think this might work better." He says softly, holding it out. You reached for it and your eyes widened when you realized it was an engagement ring on a chain. Likely the one Sam got for Jessica before... Suddenly this whole situation became very real. This was THEE Dean Winchester asking you for help. You took a deep breath, a little shaky, your sense of deep emotional connection causing you to tremble.

"This is...?" You nodded at it. Dean nodded in agreement.

"Yeah... I, um... Didn't know he left it." Dean said, his voice a bit hoarse.

"Well... at least you know he didn't leave on purpose." You joke, laying Dean's hair in the offering bowl setting the ring necklace in a cloth, and folding it up. "If he did, he probably would've taken this with him." Dean sniffles, shuffling and looking away, rubbing his nose.

"Yeah, I guess." He said roughly. You looked up at him, eyes full of empathy.

"Look, I... I know you don't know me but... I sorta know you and...for the record, I think you've probably gotta be the best big brother there is." You say softly, "You're doing a great job, Dean. I know you don't hear that often enough."

Dean looked over at you, his face a painful depiction of desperation, sorrow, and anger. You ached for this poor man, longing nothing more than to wrap him in warmth and safety for as long as you possibly could. A longing to hide him from the world.

"It's nothing." He says roughly looking away, likely embarrassed. A beat of silence follows, and then, Dean speaks again. Softly, almost fondly, and slightly strained. "Thank you."
