As I sat in my office, the weight of recent events hung heavy on my mind. My body still ached from the injuries I sustained, but I pushed aside the doctor's orders to rest. There were more pressing matters at hand, like finding Pete.
When Macau entered the room, concern etched on his face, I couldn't help but feel a pang of irritation. Didn't he understand that I had more important things to worry about than my own well-being?
Ignoring his admonishment about resting, I met his gaze with a cold stare. "I'm fine," I replied curtly, brushing off his concern. "There's no need for me to rest."
But Macau wasn't so easily deterred. His worry for Pete was evident in his voice as he mentioned his disappearance. For a moment, I felt a twinge of guilt gnaw at me. Pete had vanished, and I couldn't shake the feeling that it was somehow my fault.
However, I quickly pushed aside those thoughts, my resolve hardening once more. "Wherever he is," I said with forced indifference, "he must be happy." But deep down, I couldn't help but wonder where Pete had gone and what dangers he might be facing alone.
Macau's revelation made my blood run cold. "I asked Jin to check on it, and Ben must have taken him. He was seen in the hospital with Pete the night you got injured. After that, there are no CCTV footages."
The mention of Ben sent a shiver down my spine, and a surge of anger boiled within me. My eyes darkened, a storm of emotions swirling beneath the surface.
"What do you mean?" I demanded, my voice laced with unease. Macau's hesitation only added to my growing sense of dread as he spoke of Pete's possible involvement with Ben.
The idea of Pete being under Ben's influence filled me with a sense of urgency and anger. I couldn't let Pete fall into the clutches of that madman. The thought of Ben harming him sent a surge of adrenaline coursing through my veins.
As Macau suggested taking action, frustration boiled within me. I swept my arm across the desk, sending papers flying in all directions.
Macau's voice was firm, trying to break through the storm of emotions raging inside me. "Vegas, calm down. Throwing things will not make Pete come back."
I gritted my teeth, frustration bubbling up. "Is Pete stupid? Why would he even go with a stranger? If he wanted to leave me this bad, he could have gone somewhere else. But why him?"
Macau's disbelief was palpable. "Are you serious, Vegas? That man could have threatened or forced him. What could Pete do in front of him? And did you forget you also did something similar to Pete?"
"Macau" I said in a warning about bringing that up again but Macau's tone was resolute as he ignored my warning. "You brought him here because you want him to be safe. After your enemies find out about your past, stop acting like you don't care and tell him the truth after bringing him here, Vegas."
His words struck a chord deep within me, stirring a sense of responsibility I had been trying to push aside. "I know," I admitted quietly, the weight of my secrets pressing down on me. "I'll find him, and I'll tell him everything."
