I grab the radio from the dash, getting ahold of Phe's mom in the control room and ask her to meet us down in the garage.
She's here in record time and instantly grabs Hudson from her daughter, smothering him in hugs and kisses. Then she notices Ophelia's leg.
"Oh my God! What happened?" She gasps.
"Kenna." I warn.
"I know." She shakes her head. "No questions. What do you need me to do?"
"Take Hudson, I'll get Ophelia to the infirmary. I need you to go back to the control room. Wipe the tapes with footage of us and stop the camera in the garage from filming. There's something else I need to do." Eric instructs.
"Ok." She answers. Kenna kisses Ophelia on the forehead and leaves with our son.
I lift Phe into my arms and begin the well known way to the clinic. I make sure she's settled in before leaving.
It kills me that I can't stay but there's something I have to do. I need to make sure none of this blows back on Ophelia or I.
Jogging back down to the garage I hop into the same SUV and take off to the bunker. I turn off the vehicle and get out, grabbing the lighter from my pocket.
Opening the door to the warehouse, I flick it open, staring at the flame before tossing the whole thing inside. I close the door behind me, not looking back as the building begins to burn.
I race back to Dauntless and check in with Kenna in intelligence. She's erased the footage of Ophelia and I and turned off all cameras that had a visual of me and turned them back on the moment I entered the control room.
"Everything's taken care of." She promises.
"Thanks, Kenna." I smile, taking Hudson from her. "I'm gonna go check on Phe."
"How is she?" She asks, the concern for her daughter is obvious.
Hudson leans into me, resting his head on my shoulder. I can tell he's exhausted. "She's gonna be fine." I promise.
"Thank you for protecting them, Eric." Kenna says as I'm leaving.
"I'd do anything for them." I call out over my shoulder. As we walk down the hall, I look at the little boy in my arms. "Let's go get Momma, little man."
Hudson and I enter the infirmary and instantly I'm searching for Phe. She's asleep in the same bed I left her in.
"Hi, Eric." I hear from beside me. It's Aylee.
"How is she?"
"She's fine. We got the bullet out clean and her head scan showed a minor concussion. Nothing to worry about." She says.
I give her a small smile and rest my hand on her shoulder. "Thanks for always taking care of her."
"You're welcome." Aylee looks shocked at my sudden show of kindness but recovers quickly. "You really love them, don't you?" She says, looking back at Ophelia and then at Hudson.
"More than I've ever loved anyone." I nod.
"Eric?" A soft voice calls out.
Aylee smiles and excuses herself back to her office as I sit down in the chair next to Phe's bed.
"How are you feeling?" I ask, placing Hudson on the bed beside her.
She wraps her arm around his little shoulder and he leans against her, happy to be back with his mom. "Better."
I can tell she's being honest and it's a comfort to see her looking relaxed and alert. Unconscious Ophelia is something I'd never like to witness again.
"What happens now?" She whispers and I know she's talking about James.
I shake my head. "You do nothing. Try to forget about it all. I promise I took care of it and you will never be held responsible."
"Ok." She says with a nod.
"Move back in." I say, out of the blue.
Her eyes widen as she stares at me in surprise. "What?"
"I want you and Hudson to move back in with me. I don't want us to waste anymore time." I explain.
"Do you promise things will be different this time?" Her eyes are sad.
I reach for her hand. "I know things have been difficult for us. Our relationship has been all over the place. But, Ophelia, I swear to you that I will never harm you or Hudson, I won't take you for granted, and you'll always be safe with me."
She glances down at our little boy who's fallen asleep against her petite frame. I look down at him too and we both stare while Ophelia thinks over her next words carefully.
"I love you, Eric, you know that." I nod, thinking she's about to reject my offer. "If we're serious about sticking it out this time then I don't want our family to be separated any longer."
I catch her lips with mine as she finishes. "So that's a yes?" I ask as we pull away.
"Yes." She smirks, kissing me again.
