Day 31 - The Shadows Know Me

This is the last day, but rest assured, not my last Hazbin story. I have something in the works and I am excited by it. Not sure when I will post it as I just have the outlines for some things and the character sheets. Will keep you updated. So this one shot is inspired by a song. I wonder if anyone knows the song. I decided to end the challenge with my favorite ship. RadioDust!

I was in so much pain as I was running down the streets of hell. It was extermination day, and everything was going well. I was one of the angels part of the extermination, and exorcist, and I was just doing my yearly job. I never expected that I would get hurt.

No one noticed that I was missing, or if they did notice, they didn't care. Everything ached and I was very scared. I didn't want to admit it. Being scared as a weakness. I couldn't let these demons hurt me. However, once they found out that I was an angel, one of the exorcists, I was being hunted.

I felt someone's eyes land on me and a shiver went down my spine. I don't know who was watching me, but I do know I felt like I was in danger. My instincts were mostly on point, and I quickly acted when I felt a demon leap out toward me to attack me.

With my spear in hand, I fended off the attacker. I was already pretty tired from running. My wings were damaged so I couldn't fly. I guess a weak angel looks like an easy target to these sinners.

I was able to keep them back for a little bit until more of them started to show up. My exhaustion slowly started to take over. One of the sinners knocked The spear out of my hand. I started to get worried. The spear was my weapon, and without it, I wasn't sure how I was going to handle these guys.

One of them suddenly left at me and I quickly covered my self with my arms, in a defensive stance. When it opened my eyes after a moment, from the confusion of not being attacked I saw a black shield in front of me?

It was a shadow. I paused for a moment and noticed that I was now in a sphere of shadows. Looking to my left I saw nothing, same to my right. So I peeked behind myself and saw a tall sinner.

"Don't be afraid, little angel, The shadows are my friends." He spoke in a rather unique voice. I wasn't sure who he was, why he was helping me, or anything about him in general. But he clearly knew I was an angel. I didn't try to hide it.

"Why the hell are you helping a damn angel?" One of the sinners yelled.

"Let's just say, I have my reasons." My rescuer said no more on the matter and instead proceeded to use the shadows to attack the other sinners. It wasn't long before the others were easily defeated, and then for some reason consumed by my rescuer.

Once he deemed that it was safe, he lowered the shield and walked over to me. I wasn't sure if he was going to attack me, so I quickly picked up the spear.

Arching a brow, he gave me an amused look. "If I wanted to hurt you, I would have already. I have no intentions on harming you and anyway whatsoever. I simply have my own personal reasons on why I saved you."

"And that would be?"

"Well, think of it like this: You now owe me." He chuckled.

It was true. I now owe him my life. It's not something I am too happy about, but it's not far from wrong. I sighed and lowered my weapon. "I guess you have a point. And what exactly do you want from me?"

"You see, I have this little partner of mine, and she has this ridiculous dream. I agreed to help her, but only because I was bored." He started to ramble about a hotel and how it was something created by Lucifer's daughter. I had heard about the young Morningstar, but I hadn't heard of this Hotel of hers. A place for sinners to be redeemed. Sounded like a nightmare. Imagine if sinners actually made it into heaven. It would stir up chaos. However, if it was the streets of the pride ring or this hotel, I think I will go to the hotel.

I walked besides my savior and learned that his name was Alastor. It turns out, he was one of the stronger sinners around. They had created a system where the people above sinners were overlords. He was one of them. That would explain his intense magic. But it still doesn't make any sense why he saved my life. I was literally taking the lives of his fellow sinners. Then again, I saw him consume his fellow sinners.

"By the way, I never caught your name."

"Anthony." I felt obligated to tell him. I knew his name, and I didn't want him to keep referring to me as little angel. It didn't even make sense for him to call me that, I was taller. I think he was just doing that to mess with me.

"Anthony, hmm, nice name."

I blinked in surprise. I was not expecting a compliment from him. I decided to keep my mouth shut and just keep walking beside him. When we got to the hotel, most of the crew were on guard. I examined the small cast amongst me. There was a snake sinner, a little hyperactive girl, a cat sinner, Miss Morningstar, and another fallen angel. I recognized her as Vaggie. Her eye widened before it narrowed at me. It was her way of saying 'say anything and you are dead.'

I waved to the crew. "Hi, um, I'm Anthony and your co-worker here saved my life."

"Alastor... out Alastor saved your life?" Charlie asked. I Guess it wasn't something he normally did.

"Yeah. I understand if you don't want me here as I was one of your people's executioners, but my fellow angels kind of left me here. I had gotten hurt and I currently can't fly."

"Oh, uhh, That's no problem. You can stay here for the time being. But if you stay here, you are not allowed to kill anyone, And you must help out." Those seemed like the reasonable demands, so I agreed. If it meant that I had a place to stay to heal, and was safe, it was better than nothing. Before Charlie could give me a room to stay, Alastor took it upon himself to show me around. The other seemed suspicious of this act, but said nothing.

He pulled me close to him and I felt myself being pulled down. When I looked at my feet, I had no feed. I was literally fading into the ground. For a second I panicked before I was engulfed into darkness. When light finally shown again, I was in a different room. "What?"

"Like I said, the shadows are my friends. You will not be harmed by my shadow. You will be protected."

"Why do you care so much?"

"You really do not know?"

"Should I?"

"Our time together was brief for I passed, but you were special to me. I cannot explain how I knew that it was you, but I did. I never expected to run into you again, but I have. I am pleased that I have." The demon spoke, but it seemed sincere.

"You and I met before?"

"It seems you really do not remember. I was told that an angel will have their memories wiped if they take the path of being an exorcist. Something to do with the fact that it is easier to take a life if you do not remember a life." Alastor said. I rubbed my arms. He wasn't wrong. I had no recollection of my past life. I remember some names, some faces come up but that was my immediate family. Especially if they were in heaven with me. But anyone that wasn't in heaven with me, I couldn't recall. Maybe he spoke the truth.

"I may be a little selfish in this, but when I saw you, I just wanted you back. I joined this silly idea of a hotel in hopes that I would see you again. I guess, it worked out."

"Don't get any ideas. I still have no idea who you are."

"That doesn't matter. You will remember me in time. And if not, I will start from the beginning and get to know you all over again."

"I just said don't get any ideas. That's an idea."

He chuckled. "We shall see. Just know that I will protect you here. And as long as you were in the shadows, you will be safe." When he talked about the shadows, they almost seem to come alive. But this time I wasn't afraid. I watched the demon smile wider. Whether or not his words were the truth or not, familiarity was sparked, and I relaxed. Just who was he to me? Just who was I to him?

A/N: I decided to leave it here because I kind of want to turn this into a full story. Originally I was going to end it as if it was a summed up version of a full story, but I kind of like this idea a lot. I will see if I have the time and then motivation to work on a full story for this one. I actually already have two full stories in the works for Hazbin. We shall see.
