"Hey birdie" Daryl says carls been calling me that for years and people started to pick it up

I ask "yea I'm ok" he says nodding I give him a look and he chuckles "really" he says "it's been quiet since Rick and michonne had rj they spent most of their time with Judith and rj and we barely saw them anymore I missed them since we moved to hilltop after Beth "haven't seen Rick and michonne in awhile" I say walking along the woods "Judith's gotten big so has rj" he says

I hear a branch snap and I load my bow pointing it in the noises direction "put the bows down and turn around" I sigh lowering my bow putting my arrow back in my holster and Daryl lowers his bow "shit" I groan turning around there was a group of people holding guns on us "maybe we shouldn't have gone out so far" I say to Daryl

People grab Daryl's bow and someone reaches for my bow but I punch her in the face kicking her back in her stomach loading my bow pointing it at the man who took Daryl's bow "leave us alone and we'll leave we're just out here hunting" I pant looking at the woman I kicked she was pointing a gun at me "please she had a child" Daryl says "doesn't matter you stepped into our land you die" a man says "just me man just me" Daryl says "that's not how it works!" I snap "girls right both die" the woman was cocking her gun

"or you both die" I hear and rick and a bunch of soldiers creep forward Rick signals for them to shoot and they do I shout the man pointing a gun at Daryl and after a bit only a few were injured on Rick's side and the others were dead I laugh and turn to Rick but he looks at me shaking widened his eyes

"what?" I ask realizing he's looking at my stomach I look down and see blood seeping through my shirt I wobble a bit and stumble "oh god" I gasp and drop to the ground a ringing in my ears go off as I hit my head on the ground my breath is uneven and my eyes keep going dark but I fight to stay awake "I don't I- I- don't want to die!" I sputter feeling hot tears rush down my cheeks as Daryl carries me "your going to be fine your gonna be fine" Daryl says holding back tears

It was scary knowing what was going to happen we weren't going to make it home in time I'd be buried next to Glenn and Abraham and all those deaths I'd caused maybe I'd see my dad again maybe

"Bethy strong as the sun as kind as the moon my Bethy" I sang gently as we played outside on the grass the gates opened and I picked Beth up "want to go see mommy?" I ask opening my mouth gasping excitedly Beth giggles and I was over but hear people yelling and see Daryl ride through the gates holding someone
"Mommy!" Beth yells excitedly as I run over "what's going on?" I ask looking trying to see who he was holding only to see my beautiful wife's curly dark hair covered in her own blood "Carl" I hear my dad say walking up to me "dad? What is going on?!" I shout at him "she got shot" my dad says looking down "hold Beth" I say giving him Beth watching as Siddique drags her away on a homemade stretcher "Bridget!" I yell running to the infinity but Daryl stops me "you don't want to see her like that man" he says "get the fuck out of my way" I say and Daryl nods moving out of the way I walk in looking around "oh my god" I gasp running over to her side grabbing her hand

"birdie can you hear me?" I ask she nods slightly and smiles but her eyes were closed she was pale and drenched in sweat "I love you Carl" she manages to squeak out in a grumbly voice "I love you too" I say trying to hold back tears "I'm really sorry Carl" she says in the same grumbly tone "I know" I say shaking my head "I don't wanna leave you two" she says opening her eyes slightly "Carl you have to get out so I can save her" Siddique says "I love you so much" I say kissing her on the forehead I hadn't cried in awhile but lord was I feeling it now

"How are you feeling son?" My dad asks he was holding Beth and I was sat up against the infirmary wall with my legs to my chest just staring off into space I ignore my dad on rest my forehead on my knees sniffling I stand up taking Beth from him walking away

"Where's mommy?" She asks "she's ok" I manage to get out nodding to beth "I want mommy!" Beth says protesting that I was holding her instead of Bridget "Beth please" I say gently and she stops "where's mommy?" She asks "Beth remember we taught you about what me and mommy carry around?" I ask "gun?" She asks "yes guns well mommy was out with uncle Daryl and she got hurt by a gun" I say gently "mommy's hurt?" She asks upset "mommy's doing to be ok she's strong like you" I say poking her in the stomach slightly Beth giggles and nods and I smile

It's been a couple days Bridget's been in and out of consciousness and Siddique doesn't know if she'll pull through or not

"Birdie you can let go you've been fighting I know me and Beth will be ok if you have to go" I say squeezing her hand gently "Carl don't say that" michonne says rubbing my arm "she's gonna make it she'll pull through" she says sadly
Beth walks over she's holding a drawing handing it to michonne "aw Beth" michonne says looking up at me

Michonne turns the paper around Beth drew squiggly stick figures of me with my hat and long hair Bridget with her bow and herself we were all holding hands and smiling "it's beautiful Beth" I say as she climbs into my lap "mommy wake up" she says shaking Bridget's arm "mommy's just sleeping she's ok" michonne says looking at me mouthing "get her the fuck out" I nod "Bridget want to go see Judith?" I ask "yea! Bye mommy!" Judith says climbing down from my lap running to the door michonne walks over and opens it follow her out of the door "Carl?"

Bridget's voice was raspy and tired but she was there "hey birdie" I say putting my hand on her head stroking her hair "I'm not ready" she says "for what?" I ask keeping my voice quiet "to leave you guys" she says "I don't want to" she says she was getting worked up

"Hey I know I know" I say giving her a warm smile "Beth was just in here she drew a picture" I say picking up her picture showing it to birdie her eyes open a bit more and she smiles "we should move back to Alexandria it's not fair to keep her from her family I miss my dad and I know you do too" she says softly "fine we'll move back once you get better" I say nodding "do you want to?" She asks "we were safer there why did we move in the first place?" I ask "I don't know" she says chuckling "you got pissed at your dad and we moved" she says

"Ready?" Bridget asks closing the car door "yea" I say nodding Beth was in the car screaming a song Judith taught her "I'm not staying a car with her if she sings like that the whole time" Bridget says laughing walking over to me I pull her in and give her a tight side hug "once we go back we're definitely leaders you ready?" I ask "I was going to be a leader anyways soo" she says looking up to me smirking "sanctuary, hilltop" she continues "we'll Ezekiel calls me prince of Alexandria for a reason" I say "princess of Alexandria" she continues

"Alright alright everyone loves you and your leadership" I say chuckling "well I love you" she says turning to me and smile and she leans in and we kiss "I missed you" I say "why?" She asks confused "you were shot and in the infirmary for 2 months?" I say "oh yea" she says chuckling "mommy!"
