I went inside to check the time after admiring the view and realized I had been out there for
TWO HOURS!!!
Oh my gosh!! I didn't even know!
I was so caught up in my thoughts, I must've forgotten!
Just then there was a knock at my door,
"Come in"
"Hey!"
It was Dylan
"Hi, am I late for training?"
"Oh no! Not at all, I just came to tell you breakfast was ready" Dylan smiled sweetly
"Oh okay! I'll be down in a few" I returned a smile and turned toward my unmade bed,
my back towards him.
"Is everything ok Caitlin? I've got a feeling somethings bothering you..."
I began to make my bed to avoid making eye contact
"Last night I came to check up on you and saw ice everywhere"
I continued to make my bed,
finally I broke.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I just have a lot of things on my mind, that's really all"
"Is there anything, I can help you with?"
"I don't know... I can't tell if it's just something I have to deal with mentally"
"Maybe I can help, is it something with your family?"
"How did you know?"
"I could tell by the way you were talking about what happened to your family to us yesterday, your eyes said it all..."
to break the silence he bursted out a small joke
"and because... I'm a mind-reader"
we both exchanged a couple giggles knowing he wasn't.
"Sometimes... I just wish my sister Catherine was here with me, but then again sometimes I think I'm better off without her."
"Why do you think that?"
"Maybe if I was with her, maybe I would've hurt her with my powers by accident or something, and also before I was put in the basement.. she blamed me for my dad's death. I still believe he may be out there, I know he wouldn't have left Catherine and I to die! I haven't seen him since he left that day to go help and rescue victims out in the city where there was trouble.... Basically everything that happened to my family, Catherine believed I was the one to blame."
I finished making the bed and sat on the edge of it.
Dylan sat beside me.
"I have something to tell you"
"Yes?"
"You know how I told you my parents were out of town?"
"Yeah"
I looked at him seriously preparing for something I sensed was wrong
"Well, they left with my brother to look at colleges, and I never saw them again. My mom told me before they left that they would be back in an hour, I waited, and waited, nothing. Thinking they were in traffic I went to bed expecting them to be back when I woke up. I woke up the next day and nobody was there. I turned on the TV, something in my gut told me to turn on the local news, and when I did... I found out my family was in a severe car accident, sometimes I think what if it was me? What if my life was taken away like that? What if I was in the car with them? Would I have died? Could I have prevented it from happening?"
"I'm so sorry Dylan, I really am."
There was silence for a minute,
"I just want you to know none of what happened to your family is your fault, Caitlin. It all happened for a reason"
"Dylan! Caitlin! Did you guys forget about breakfast?!" Alexa screamed from downstairs.
"We're coming!" Dylan shouted back.
"Thank you for sharing your story with me, it must've been so hard for you. Thank you for talking to me too, you honestly don't know how much this means to me."
"Anytime"
A smile appeared on his face, stretching from ear to ear.
"Oh and Caitlin, I just want you to know you can talk to me, I'll be here for you"
"Thank you, me too"
We both smiled at each other for the longest time
"Let's go eat breakfast!"
"I'm starving!!!"
I was really hungry after talking with Dylan.
I honestly didn't want to stop talking to him though.
He was so kind, polite, and caring.
He was the sweetest human being I've ever met.
