Three quarters of the way there and three days in, Me and JJ just talked in the car, not thinking about where we were going or what we were leaving behind. Imagining seeing Ryan after just a month made my heart pounce and leap out of my chest. About a month ago, I was celebrating my birthday and eating cake, but now I'm on the run. I couldn't think about it; otherwise, my chest would explode."

"Hey," I said, stretching. I had just woken up. I didn't even remember falling asleep.

"Hey," she smiled.

"Where are we?"

"Virginia, I think. We just passed a massive city."

"Damn, did I miss another city? I'm getting bored of just seeing dirt and road," I slammed my hand on the dashboard.

"Hey, there's only one city that matters: New York, and we're almost there."

"Great."

"And there's going to be another city coming up soon. Just keep those pretty little eyes open," she smiled.

"Shut up, you're so gross," I slapped her arm playfully and laughed.

"Alright. Hey, look. In the distance, there's a small little town," covered in fog with a few buildings. "Your first city, not particularly a cool one."

"You don't get it. When there's a small town, there's always a bigger one attached to it, like New York," she smiled.

"Wait, really? We're that close?"

"Well, a few big cities, but yeah."

"You have no idea, do you?"

"Look, I'm not good at directions, but I didn't get through elementary, so I know that North Carolina is nearer than Mississippi is."

"Good lord, it could take days," I said, putting my fingers through my hair.

"Hey, no, we're almost there."

"It would have been easier to get a plane."

"I know, I'm rich, but I don't have enough money for two plane tickets without my parents' help."

"Hey, wait a minute," I paused, realizing something. "If we only have like a couple of bucks left and spent like 60, that's only like a hundred. Why did you only bring a hundred? You had to have saved more for college."

"I just thought that there was a tiny little chance I could still go," she looked down.

"I know you screwed up. There was no chance. Now, I left us with nothing," a tiny splash of water ran down her cheek.

"Nope, don't cry. It's cool. Nothing's better than driving in this car with you," I smiled.
