The day before school, JJ didn't have any clean clothes, so she went home to get some. I tried begging her not to go and that she could borrow mine, but she didn't listen and left. She didn't come back until we met the next day, and she didn't speak to me. We both walked slowly in silence to school, trying to avoid Gabriela and the others, but we were unsuccessful. At the school gate, Gabriela was standing there, wiggling her fingers as she waved.

"Hey y'all," she walked up to us smiling and put her arms around us. "I've had a think over this suspension, and I think why don't we all just get along?"

"And why would you want this, Gabbi?" I said.

"I don't," she said. At that moment, Tommy and Chloe came in and kicked me and JJ in the back of the legs. We toppled over.

"See you in English, Maya," she paused. "Hopefully, I don't catch HIV too." I got up to punch her, but before I could, JJ had grabbed my crutch from the ground and swung it at Gabriela. It hit her in the stomach, and she folded on the ground.

"What the fuck, Jessica? You absolute psycho! What is wrong with you?" said Chloe.

"What is going on here?" said a random teacher.

"She's a psycho, that's what's going on here. She just hit me; she's nuts," Gabbi said, her mouth filled with blood from the hit.

"You hit us first," I said.

"No, we didn't. She's a loony; she needs to be put in a mental hospital," Gabbi said, wheezing. I had to give it to her; there really was no proof that she hit us first since we were standing up. I couldn't believe JJ did that. She really did look like a psycho; her eyes were wide, and she looked around like someone was looking for her.

"Touch me or Maya again, and you won't get back up," were the first words she said.

"Did you hear that, sir? She just threatened me," Gabbi said, her eyes wide.

"I'm sorry, Gabbi. I didn't mean to. I don't know what came over me," JJ said, sitting on the ground. I know JJ didn't mean to hurt her. She sometimes gets so angry she can't stop herself. She needed to get the anger out somehow.

"I do; you're a psycho," Gabbi got up with the teacher's help.

JJ put her head in her knees.

"Fucking freak," Gabriela left and went to the nurse. Everyone in the school was looking at JJ, who was just sitting in the same spot.

"Girls to the office, please," the teacher put his hand on her shoulder; she flinched.

"Don't fucking touch me," she screamed, grabbing the teacher's hand and squeezing his fingers. He pulled them back and stood staring at her, as did I and the rest of the school.

"JJ, come on, let's go to the office," I leaned down to her.

"No, I'm not going," still crying.

"What happened last night?"

"NoNoNoNoNo," shaking her head.

"Jaje, tell me now," I shouted, still trying to whisper. She looked up quickly, hurried to her feet, and ran out the school gates. I could hear the teacher and Gabbi screaming. I left after her, but I couldn't possibly catch up. After 15 minutes of searching, I saw JJ sitting on the top of the jungle gym in the local park. She was sitting in the same position as in the playground. I climbed up there with some struggle and sat next to her. I could hear her loud cry.

"Hey, JJ, I'm here," I put my arm around her. I could hear her whisper.

"Nononononono..." over again.

"No, what?" Putting my jacket over her shoulders.

"He...He...He."

"What did he do, J?" I said, holding her.

"He went all the way," she sobbed, then let out a scream.

"Come here," I grabbed her in my arms and didn't let her go.

"I just keep replaying it over and over and over..." repeatedly saying and over.

"Okay, J, I'm here; I'm here."

"I-i-i didn't want to; I screamed, I did, but he kept doing it, he kept doing it," she let out another scream and collapsed on my lap.

"Is Gabbi okay?" she said.

"I'm not sure; she looked fine."

I didn't care about the promise; I had to tell the police. He had gone too far too many times; he was the devil, and he needed to go to jail. I just feel JJ will never trust me again if I did.

"J, we need to tell the police."

"What? No, we can't; you promised."

"JJ, you attacked Gabbi; he's making you go crazy."

"Gabbi deserved it."

"She did, but you're not like that; he's changing you."

"No, I think I've always been crazy. I'm a monster; Gabbi's right. I should be in a mental hospital; I should just die. That's what dad always says, and he's right."

"Don't you ever fucking say that again; do you understand? You shouldn't die; I love you, and I need you here."

"You're the only one."

"No, I'm not; Gran loves you, Ryan loves you."

"Yeah, right," she laughed.

"They do; you're freezing. Let's go back to mine."

"Okay," I stood up and held my arm out for her; she took it, and we walked home. At home, we just lay in bed and hugged. I don't know how long it was, but I didn't want it to end; she fell asleep in my arms.
