Two days later, I got up and made Gran's breakfast. Pierre knocked on the door. We sat down in silence until he broke the mist of awkwardness by saying, "A boy from school told me you were dating Jessica."
"Oh yeah, we were, but we're not anymore."
"But you're still friends, oui?"
"No, but I love her still."
"But only in a friend way?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"Good." He leaned forward, grabbed my chin, and turned my head to face him. He leaned in and kissed me. We kissed for a second, I pulled back. "I can't do this," I said.
"Oh oui, of course. You don't like me, do you?" he said.
"No, well, yes, but I erm..."
"You can tell me," putting his hand on my shoulder.
"I still have feelings for JJ," he looked down.
"You do?" JJ said. I hadn't even noticed, but she was standing at the door that Pierre had forgotten to close, wearing blue shorts and a soccer t-shirt with a messy bun. She looked so hot, but it was interfered by a purple bruise on her eye.
"I should go; I have school tomorrow," Pierre said hurriedly, getting his jacket before rushing out the door. JJ sat down on the couch next to me, biting her nails, which she did when nervous. I put my hand on hers, trying to get her to stop.
"What are you doing here?"
"I needed to speak to you. You still like me?"
"Yes, of course I do."
"You sounded like you hated me the other day."
"I was angry; I didn't know what I was saying."
"I was so scared I ruined everything," fingers back in mouth.
"You could never. I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry too." We hugged each other.
"Oh J," looking at her marked purple skin.
"It's OK; it doesn't hurt anymore," laughing through tears.
"He shouldn't get away with this."
"Mi, you promised, please."
"I won't do anything," I said. "Does he do anything to anyone else?"
"No, he wouldn't. I'm the child he hates; he's always hated me. I don't know why," she wiped her tears. "I think my parents knew I liked girls even before I did," she laughed.
I felt so happy talking to JJ, happiest I've felt this suspension period even if the theme is dark.
"Did you hear that Bobby Michael knocked up a 23-year-old?" she said.
"What, no way! Isn't Bobby Michael like 17?"
"Yup," she laughed.
"Oh my God, didn't he get Yasmine Voleva pregnant too?" I asked.
"Yeah, but luckily for Yaz, they were both 15 at the time."
"Did she keep it?"
"No, I think her folks made her get rid of it," she said.
"That's crazy; someone needs to get that kid neutered," I said. We both laughed.
After the weekend, we were back at school; that time off me and JJ just talked; it felt like a dream. We didn't see Pierre once after the night I rejected him.
Sorry for such a short chapter (bb)
