I took a deep breath as soon as I stepped outside into the cold air. There was a slight breeze in the atmosphere and I was thankful for it. I became claustrophobic way to easily, a trait that I had received from my mom.

I grabbed at my stomach when it made a loud growling noise signaling how little I had to eat that day. I got a few glances my way from a couple of girls who were in the middle of smoking around a bench that was connected to the outside wall of the bar. They only smiled lazily before returning back to their conversation.

I looked across the street to see a line of clothing stores and tall skyscrapers all lighted and bright against the dark night.

To my relief I spotted a bakery at the corner of the street. The Main Street was close to vacant with the occasional car zooming its way past. However, not feeling like running in my uncomfortable shoes, I just headed towards the crosswalk and pressed the button rapidly as if the walking signal would appear faster if I did.

As I made my way way across the street I put my hand up to my temple. I was beginning to get a throbbing headache, another wonderful side effect from my hunger. Reaching for my hair tie, I carefully pulled it out of my hair in hopes to release some of the stress on my head. I ran my fingers across my scalp and let them carry though to the end of my elbow length hair.

When I reached the bakery door, I looked over at the hours sign. I didn't want to look like an idiot if this place was closed and I was pulling on the door. It had happened way to many times.

Sun: 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Mon: 6:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m.
Tue: 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Wed: 6:00 a.m- 9:00 p.m.
Thurs: 6:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m
Fri: 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Sat: 7:00 a.m - 11:00 a.m.

I glanced down at my phone to check the time.

10: 51

Alright, I have about ten minutes. I grabbed the cold door handle and swung the door open when a small bell rung signaling I had entered the bakery.

Immediately, my nose was rewarded with the delicious scent of minty hot chocolate. I walked over to the glass counter filled with croissants and baked goods when an elderly old lady walked over towards me.

"Hello dearie, what can I get for you?"

I smiled back at the short old lady and was about to ask for a sample of the pumpkin spice latte and a blueberry muffin when I heard a loud thud behind me. Being the timid person I was, I jumped and turned around clutching at my heart.

I scanned the small bakery to see a blonde man with tussled hair standing up next to a chair that had toppled over backwards. Next to him was a short blonde haired girl and another tan guy with shaggy black hair. How had I not noticed them before?

When I glanced back at the blonde who had knocked his chair over, he was breathing heavily and his once grey eyes flashed yellow. It was then that the scent of minty hot chocolate and the invisible pull towards this man kicked in and I felt my wolf struggle to break through to the surface. This gorgeous man was my mate.

I stood still for a moment as thoughts raced through my mind. My mate would expect me to leave with him without a second thought. However, Boden and I had promised Zaida we would never leave her. The three of us only really had eachother after our moms death and the thought of losing another family member was unbearable. Even though my dad was still physically with us then, he wasn't emotionally. When our mom had died, he had died as well slowly, but noticeably withering away until he ran away.

And right now, in this moment, I intended to keep my promise to my siblings and did the one thing I had hated my father for.

I ran.

There was a loud roar that thundered behind me as I exited the bakery and I fought the urge to cower down at the noise.

I was making my way back across the street towards the nightclub in hopes to lose my mate long enough to find Jess and head back towards my house when I cursed under my circumstance. I was usually a good runner, but between me fighting against my wolf, the tight dress, and the damn stilettos, I wasn't making very good progress.

When I reached the curb I was yanked backwards by my arm and slammed into a wall of abs. His 6'2 body towered over my 5'8 one, and three of those inches were the product of my heels. I tried to push away from him but his grip only tightened around my arm and he pulled me closer so that both of his defined arms were wrapped around me firmly and my face was pressed again his hard chest.

"Don't run from me little mate." He whispered in my ear as his hands rested on my hips.

I shudder with fear and delight running through my body before trying one last time to move out of my mates grasp. His growl went straight to my core.

I screamed.

Suddenly a hand clasped over my mouth and I clawed at it still screaming like I was about to die. The one hand that was still on my waist held on even tighter as I tried to wiggle my way out of his suffocating palm.

I tried to scream again but this time I couldn't. It was then I realized my lungs were aching for oxygen. I gasped for air, however his hand acted like a wall that cut off my life source. I was starting to get lightheaded and it was then when I stopped wiggling. I couldn't fight him anymore.

My vision was hazy and I saw black and white clouds dancing around before my eyelids fell and I felt my entire body go limp into my mates arms.

The man shook me but couldn't resist the pull of the darkness as I finally succumbed into it. It was a darkness that I wasn't sure I would ever awaken from.
