     (Third Person POV)

Merry and Pippin run into the forest Fangorn, running through the trees. There large feet made it difficult to be graceful and they stumble as they attempt to jump over branches and vines, falling over.

"Did we lose him?" Asked Merry. "I think we lost him." Suddenly  an orc appears from not too far behind them. The creature ran towards the two hobbits with a knife.

"I'm going to rip out your filthy little innards! Come here!" The orc yelled after Merry and Pippin as they tried desperately to get away. Merry pulls Pippin to a stop and shoves him towards a tree.

"Climb! Hurry!" As quick as they could, they began climbing the tree, Pippin first then Merry. Suddenly Merry is grabbed by the ankle and pulled to the ground. He falls on his back and tries to kick the orc away.

"Merry!" Called Pippin in horror as he looks down at his friend. Pippin turns around to see two large eyes looking at him.

"Hmmm!" The tree was talking! Pippin ends up losing his grip on the tree and starts to fall but the tree catches him before he could hit the ground. Below, Merry struggles against the orc while a blade is held over him.

"Let's put a maggot hole in your belly!" The orc hears  a noise just as the tree moves forward and stands on him, killing the orc right before Merry's eyes. Merry was frozen with shock when Pippin tells him to run. Merry scurries to his feet and tries to run, but the tree reaches down and picks him up. He holds them in front of him, squeezing the two little hobbits until they squirm in pain.

         "Little orcs," says the tree.

"It's talking, Merry... The tree is talking!"

"Tree? I am no tree! I am an Ent."

"A tree-herder!" Said Merry in wonderment. He had but heard of these giants in tales told by the elder hobbits of the Shire and from Gandalf the Grey when he would visit. "A shepherd of the forest."

"Don't talk to it, Merry! Don't encourage it!" Pippin smacked Merry's leg.

"Treebeard, some call me," the Ent grumbled in a low voice.

"And whose side are you on?" Questioned Pippin who looked at Merry with worried eyes.

"Side? I am on nobody's side... because nobody's on my side, little orc. Nobody cares for the woods anymore."

           "We're not orcs! We're Hobbits!"

"Orcs?" Treebeard began, not quite trusting the words of such an odd little creature. "Never heard of a Hobbit before. Sounds like Orc mischief to me!" Treebeard squeezes the two little hobbits more. "They come with fires. They come with axes. Gnawing, biting, breaking, hacking, burning! Destroyers and usurpers! Curse them!"

"No you don't understand!" Groaned Merry as he continued to struggle against the grasp of Treebeard. "We're Hobbits! Halflings! Shire-folk!"

"Hmmm.." hummed the Ent. "Maybe you are... maybe you are not. The White Wizard will know."

"The White Wizard?" Pippin looks to Merry who frowns.

            "Saruman..."

Without saying more of the matter, Treebeard stops and sets the two hobbits down. They find their balance and inhale a long, deep breath for they both were being held so tight they were on the verge of passing out. Finally they had settled down and, as they turned around, they came face to face with the White Wizard Treebeard had spoke of...
