In a New York City Apartment, The alarm clock blares, it's 6am. The sound jolts Alex awake. His other alarm clock, Everly, is still asleep in her room. He groans, rubs his eyes, and he rolls out of bed and heads to the bathroom in his humble 2 bedroom apartment. It's the City. It's not cheap. In the shower,he attempts to wash the Monday Scaries off, trying to prepare himself for a new week. After he leaves the steam filled bathroom, he walks back to his room, where he gets dressed and ready for the day. He tightens his tie, and walks across the hall from his room to his 3 year old daughter's room. Once he turns on the light, he finds Everly already awake, her bright eyes filled with curiosity.
"Good morning, princess," Alex greets her with a tired smile, kissing the top of her head, his lips grazing her long brown hair.
She has never had more than a trim, so she has a lot of hair for her age.
"Morning, Daddy!" Everly chirps, her tiny voice filling the room with warmth.
"Let's get up and go potty." He said as he scoops her into his arms and carries her to the bathroom.
"Ok Daddy. Will you sit with me while I tinkle?" She asks as Alex sits her on her little potty chair in the floor of the shared bathroom.
Alex chuckles and sits on the closed toilet lid. "Yes I will."
He tried to correct her to make her call it potty or bathroom, but she insists that it is tinkling.
After she uses the bathroom, he takes her to the dining room(which was generous to say, it was a table in his kitchen.) and gets her a bowl of Cheerios. While Everly munches on her cereal, Alex prepares their lunches for the day, packing Everly's favorite snacks and ensuring they have everything they need for the day ahead.
"PB & J or Ham and Cheese Princess?" Alex asks softly trying to see what he needs from the fridge.
Everly smiles. "Ummmm.... Jelly!" She says enthusiastically.
Alex nods and makes a sandwich for her lunchbox. Packing it for her. And he throws leftover spaghetti in a lunchbox for him.
After breakfast, Alex helps Everly get dressed in her favorite pink dress adorned with glittery stars, and they both head out the door, ready to face the day.

As they drive to daycare, Alex hums along to the radio, stealing glances at Everly in the rearview mirror. She babbles excitedly about the adventures she hopes to have with her friends at daycare, her innocence a ray of sunshine in Alex's otherwise mundane life.
"Me and Raya can cook in the play kitchen, and Daniel likes painting in pink with me." The lively 3 year old informed her dad.
"Oh really. It sounds like you have a busy day. Can we trade spots? You go to work for me? I go to daycare for you?" Alex said playfully.
"Yes Daddy! I can go to your office and answer the phone and say Hi, you in trouble? I gots a courtroom person for you." Everly said with a smile.
Alex chuckled. "Make sure to get the accounting report to Debra by end of day."
Everly giggled. "Ok Daddy"
Once they arrive, Alex drops Everly off, exchanging pleasantries with the daycare staff before heading to work.
At the attorney's office, Alex settles into his desk, the familiar routine of answering emails and filing paperwork lulling him into a sense of normalcy. Despite the monotony of his job, Alex takes pride in his work, knowing that it provides for him and Everly.
