The hospital lobby buzzed with anticipation as Zack and Alex waited eagerly with their ten year old daughter, Everly. Three years had flown by since they decided to welcome a new baby into their lives, and now they were on the brink of expanding their family as planned. Nerves and excitement danced in their hearts as they awaited news of the surrogate's labor.
"I just want him to be here already. I have been nesting for months. I just want to hold our son." Zack said excitedly.
Alex embraced his husband. "I know darling. The waiting is the worst part."
"I want to give him all the kisses and be like the best big sister ever." Everly squealed in delight.
"You are going to be the best big sister ever." Alex said sweetly kissing the top of her head.
Finally, the moment arrived. The doctor emerged, a smile lighting up her face as she announced the arrival of their baby boy.
"He is here and he is healthy. The surrogate is also healthy and is recovering well.Congratulations." The doctor stated simply before walking away.
They were grateful the surrogate the hired Heather was healthy and doing well. They have cared a lot about her through this whole process, Zack and Alex feel she will be a friend for life after the bond they have formed.
A nurse approached them. "Hello Gaskarth Family. If you will follow me. I can show you to the nursery to meet your son. They are just cleaning him up and getting him moved as we speak."
Zack grabbed the hospital bag they had with blankets, and clothes and things the hospital said to bring for the baby's first couple days. With hearts pounding, the three of them followed her to the nursery, where their son lay wrapped in a soft blanket, tiny and perfect.
"He is so beautiful baby." Alex whispered.
"He has your hair color." Zack said quietly.
You could See a full head of hair peeking out from under his little cap. Everly pushed he nose up against the nursery window.
"Hi buddy. I am your sister Everly." She whispered into the window.
Her breath fogged up the glass, Zack crouched down to be in Everly's level. "You been thinking about a name still?"
Everly nodded. "Yes, but I want to meet him first."
Alex nodded . "Let's go."
Tears welled in their eyes as they held him for the first time, their hearts overflowing with love. Turning to Everly, Zack and Alex asked for her input on the baby's name.
"So Evie, Honey....what is his name?"Alex asked softly as he stared down at his son.
Without hesitation, she proclaimed, "Max."
"Max. That is a a name that feels just right, it completes our family." Zack said as he rested his head against Alex's shoulder.
The four of them were all embracing each other. They felt complete, In a way they never imagined possible. As they gazed at their newborn son, surrounded by the warmth of their love, they knew that this moment marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless joy and blessings.
