𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐃𝐄𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐍 the Glade, the girl emerged from the Homestead and wandered out into the crisp evening air. Her arms were held over her chest as she began to approach the group of boys, feeling a knot of nerves churning in her chest. The crowd was surrounding a mound of logs and they all held large sticks in their hands, alight with flames. She joined the group of boys, attempting not to be noticed until Alby approached her.

"Here ya go, Greenie." He held out an alight stick, gesturing for her to take it from him.

The girl hesitantly took it from his grip and he strode back to his original position, giving her no further instruction. The girl placed herself in between two boys she hadn't seen before and glanced around with anticipation, feeling as if this was some kind of ritual.

"Alright, light 'em up boys!" Alby's voice boomed, earning a slightly offended glare from the girl. "Oh, and girl." He quickly corrected himself, causing laughter to erupt from the crowd.

The circle of Gladers tossed their sticks into the pile, lighting it up immediately with a fierce flame. Cheers echoed in the girl's ears as the boys around her began to celebrate. She quickly backed away to avoid being knocked over by them.

Her eyes darted around the crowd before they faltered on a certain blonde boy. He stood next to Alby with a wide smile as the two laughed together, a slight twinkle in his eyes. The girl found herself admiring but also envying the boy as she watched from afar, almost forgetting her surroundings.

She then began to wander over to a fallen log not far from the flames and placed herself down on it. Her hands sat in her lap as she fiddled with her fingers nervously. Her gaze drifted over the boys, some were engaged in lively conversation while others simply lounged in comfortable silence.

She was broken out of her daze by a gentle hand being placed on her shoulder, causing her to jump slightly at the unexpected contact. She turned her head to the unknown presence behind her.

"Oh, hey." She sighed out in relief as Newt smiled at her.

"Hey." He kept his hand on her shoulder as he climbed over the log, plopping himself down beside her. "You alright?" He asked as he watched her intently, feeling rather intrigued by her.

A small smile twitched at the corner of her lips, warmed to know that someone cared. "I'm okay, just haven't spoken to anyone yet."

"Ah don't worry yourself Greenie, i'll introduce ya to these Shanks in a minute. But for now let's have some fun." A playful grin pulled on Newt's lips as he handed her a glass jar.
