already been offered a job as a Med-jack spread through the Glade like a wildfire. The whole day she had been non stop, patching up various injuries and all sorts. Clint had Jeff couldn't help but notice the increase of 'accidents'. They began to suspect that some of the boys were injuring themselves on purpose just to have a moment with the brunette girl.Madelyn eventually had gotten sick of the various attempts of making conversation with her so she resorted to helping the new girl. She had stayed by her side, monitoring her heart rate and breathing. The girl had barely taken any food and it began to get her quite worried. She was getting paler and looking more sick by the minute. Madelyn had tried to feed her some soup with a spoon but it was no use.
"What the hell is going on today?" Jeff puffed, looking up from a boy he was bandaging. "Why are there so many injuries?"
Clint playfully shoved Madelyn's shoulder. "I think they just want an excuse to see our beautiful new Med-Jack." He teased.
Madelyn shrugged innocently as she stood up. "I'm going to get a drink." She looked towards the crowd of boys that awaited her help and mocked their disappointed pouts. "Don't be too disappointed boys, I'm sure Clint and Jeff will be more than happy to help your very serious injuries."
She then rolled her eyes and began to head over to the kitchen.
"Hey Fry." Madelyn greeted the cook in a flirtatious tone. She jumped up on the counter and swung her legs underneath her. "I've just been dying of thirst all day." She batted her eyelashes, giving him the most convincing eyes. "Wouldn't mind getting me some water, would you?"
"Not at all." Frypan winked. He grabbed a plastic cup off the shelf and ran it under the tap. "So, how's your first proper day of being a Med-Jack been so far?"
"Long, tiring, painful. That's about it." Madelyn sighed, hunching her shoulders. "How about you?"
The cook frowned and handed her a cup of water. "The usual. Chopped carrots, made sandwiches. It's always the same."
"Yeah." Madelyn agreed, pursing her lips. "It'll get better though, especially now I'm here. I'll make sure we have some fun."
Frpan's lips twitched into a smile. "Thanks, Madelyn."
Madelyn sent him a sympathetic smile in return. She took a sip of her water as she stared out into the Glade. The field was bustling with Gladers going about their jobs. But something else caught her eye in the direction of the East doors. She was surprised to see Minho entering the Glade from the Maze. The Runner stopped three steps in, then bent over and put his hands on his knees, gasping for breath. He looked like he'd just run twenty miles, face red, skin covered in sweat, clothes soaked.
Madelyn's brows furrowed in concern. She slowly placed her cup down and jumped off the counter, not taking her eyes off the boy. Before she could make another move, Minho collapsed to the ground in a heap. Madelyn's hands flew to her mouth. She didn't hesitate to immediately run towards him.
"Alby!" She shouted as she ran. "Newt! Somebody help!" She fell to her knees beside Minho. "Hey, you okay?"
Minho panted as he rested his head in his arms. "I'm... fine." He said between breaths. He winced as Madelyn helped pull him up into a sitting position and pushed his dark hair out his eyes. "Thanks, princess."
Alby jogged up to them. "What're you doin' back, Minho? What happened?"
"Calm your wad, Alby," Minho replied, seeming to gain strength by the second. "Make yourself useful and get me some water, I dropped my pack out there somewhere."
