"Right Pen, it's time for Pall Mall, are you ready!" Eloise sniggered
She grabbed the Blue racket "I was born ready!" Eloise gave an impressed nod. She did so love Pen, she was worried that she would see less of Pen now Anthony was attempting to woo her. So seeing her friend happy and having fun with her made her feel as though she had not lost her at all.
Penelope already felt like part of her family, so why not make the official step with her oldest brother. He was a good man, rather grumpy usually, but Pen seemed to have changed him in such a small time. He was more caring and courteous. She was rather liking him being around, for the first time, it seems.
Colin reached for the yellow, but Anthony pulled it out first. Colin huffed. Colin watched Miss Penelope Featherington arrive in a yellow sunshine patterned dress. It seemed to shine in the light when she rushed to meet Anthony.
"Brother, you only ever play the Black" Benedict said cautiously. Colin scowl had become rather obvious to his siblings other than Anthony, who seemed all too distracted by Penelope to notice.
"I was in a yellow mood" Anthony smiled at Pen. Daphne looked puzzled, she had never know the oldest of her brother to be so caring, especially when it came to Pall Mall, where he was nothing but a tyrant. It made her question what motives her brother must have. Either way it was rather refreshing to have another face joining there ever growing hoard.
Daphne was always rather fond of Penelope and so was her mother, Violet. They used to say that Pen would probably get more suitor's if Lady Featherington would let her choose a dress other than yellow. In retrospect, her confidence glowed more than her dress, which would be hard to achieve. She glowed. Anthony made her glow. How unusual.
Prudence chose not to play, her mother and Lady Violet, under some shade with lemonade waiting for the game to begin.
"I would never put Lord Bridgerton and my Penelope together" Portia beamed.
"I would not have either, but how they look at one another is quite lovely"
"I definitely agree with you Lady Violet, my Pen is rather smart young Miss but sadly she didn't get the looks in the family. We were terribly surprised by the attention"
Violet went blank. The audacity to talk about her own child like that. "I think Penelope is rather beautiful, and clearly there is a few young gentleman in the ton that has noticed as much"
Portia was taken aback "I suppose you are correct, I don't mean it as an insult to Penelope, she just hasn't had any luck finding a suitor before"
Benedict was noticing a lot of tension between Colin, Anthony and Penelope, it was becoming rather embarrassing, well Colin was. He knew Colin needed to talk to Pen alone, maybe once he did, he could leave Anthony and Pen to do as they chose.
Benedict found his moment, hitting Colin and Pen's balls straight out into the bushes.
"You may choose to collect your ball and continue the game" Daphne added in.
"I don't quit so easily!" Pen smirked, clearly in a fighting mood. Anthony nodded at her spirit and watched her as she walked down the hill.
"Very well!" Colin called as they both started to trot down the field to retrieve their ball.
Once they were out of sight, Colin turned to Pen "May we talk"
"We are talking" she said sarcastically.
"I don't want you to marry my brother, Pen" Huh. Why was Colin being so blunt.
"He didn't ask me to marry him, Colin" a bemused smile spreading across her face, contemplating why Colin, of all people, would say such a thing.
