Chapter 24
Lisa
"So, how does everything look, D̂r. Lee?"
"Dī.Dīmāk.Mm̀īkārtidcheụx̄.Herwoundshavehealedperfectly." (Good. Very good. No infection.)
"I do recommend she keeps taking whatever is left of her medication from the previous fill." Dr. Lee spoke to me by the door. He has been the family's doctor since I can remember. He was of Korean and Thai descent and my father had saved his life once when he was young, and he promised to owe my father this debt for the rest of his life.
He and my father were close and in time and passing, we have gotten close as well. I didn't trust anyone else to treat Jennie but him. He was an older man, yes, but a man of great skill and patience.
"Is she okay to move around?"
The older man smiled as he placed his hand on my shoulder for a light squeeze. "She's okay to move around, jump up and down in circles. P̄hū̂h̄ỵingk̄hxngkhuṇk̄hæ̆ngkærǹgrāwkạbwạwtạwp̄hū.̂"Hechuckled. (Your woman is as strong as a bull)
"She's as stubborn as one too." I muttered.
"Are you talking about me?" Jennie asked as she finally got dressed and came to join us. ̀
"Of course not, thīrạk. I was just asking the doctor about if you needed a refill on your painkiller medication."
"And?" She pressed.
"No, you don't, but you do need to finish whatever you have left in your bottles."
"If you don't need anything else, Ms. Manoban. I need to be heading out."
"Chı ̀ chı ̀ næ̀ nxn k̄ hxbkhuṇ kh a khuṇ h̄ mx." I called for Jackson to come and escort him home. (Yes, yes of course. Thank you, doctor)
I grabbed Jackson's elbow and whispered for him to pay the doctor double like always. Jackson nodded his head and left the hall with the older

man by his side.
"So, am I cleared?" I felt hands sneak around my waist as she asked me. "He said he'd call me tonight." I reached for her hands as I turned around
to face her.
"Are you serious? You two were mumbling for an hour by the door."
"We were talking about your health, Jennie."
"Uh-huh." She muttered unconvincingly.
"Let's head out and make a day of it while we wait."
I watched her ponder the thought. "If we go out, you can't kill or threaten
anyone."
"I can't make any promises."
"Lisa." She pouted, and I leaned down to kiss her bottom lip.
"Go and get dressed. Pị." I smacked her ass, "That means go in Thai."
"I figured." She said with a roll of her eyes as she walked back inside our
room. I finished up some phone calls as Jennie got dressed inside the bathroom.
"You know what I've always wanted?" I heard her shout her question. "What?" I walked into the bathroom.
"You know those guard dogs? The scary ones with the pointy ears.
Dobermans. I've always wanted one, but they're like almost three grand for one and then you have to train them."
"I didn't know you liked dogs."
She stepped out of the closet in a black dress that reached mid-thigh exposing those long legs and that creamy, soft skin. It fit her figure and outlined her curves with a flared skirt. The neckline was wide, and it exposed her chest and the dip of those breasts with short sleeves that I saw her tug down her shoulder. She walked in front of the mirror and grabbed a hairbrush. She ran it over her hair and then went back into the closet to grab something.
"I love dogs." She said as she stepped out with some satin scarf in her hand. "My brother, Jin, is allergic so we could never have one. But I had this friend that lived next door to us when I was in middle school, and she had two golden retrievers. I used to spend all of my time with them."
She placed her bangs out before placing the cream and brown print scarf over her head and tied it underneath. I leaned against the wall as I watched her pull out some bright pink bag from under the sink. Pulling out some containers and brushes, she began applying some makeup. I watched her

focus intently into the mirror as she painted those lips a dark mauve colour and lightly pull and sweep the brush over her eyelids and face.
It was... entrapping watching her do something as simple as getting ready. I never thought something as domestic as this would make me... happy, and calm, but it did. I felt a calmness inside of me form as she finished up her makeup, and then began to fix up her bangs.
"I just need to get some shoes and grab my purse." She snatched a pair of white sneakers and a black purse from the shelf. She went inside the bedroom and sat on the bed as she pulled on a pair of white socks, then her shoes. I grabbed her hand and helped her stand up.
"Good?" She looked up at me for approval.
I smiled. "Fucking beautiful." I kissed her forehead and then dropped a kiss onto her lips. "Let's go." I decided to drive us by myself this time with Jennie next to me. I had a few of my men in another car behind me following just in case anything were to happen. I had my gun on me, and I would protect Jennie with my life, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
"Where are you taking me?" "Where do you want to go?" "Shopping." She suggested. "Shopping it is."
I think her version of shopping wasn't the one I had in mind. Jennie never spent money on herself. It was one thing that I had noticed when I had her file in front of me. So, I did the one thing I've been wanting to do since we met. Spoil her. I took her to every brand-name place I could think of while ignoring her attempt to argue with me. I bought her clothes from Chanel, purses from Gucci, and heels from Jimmy Choo. She stomped out of every store with a glare as she kept insisting that she didn't want anything. Like I gave a shit. I dragged her to every store that was in sight. I even bought her a new laptop, and a few accessories from Bulgari. When she had enough, I had Jackson and Hoony place the bags in the car.
Then she whined about being hungry, so I took her to one of my favourite steakhouse restaurants of all time; Mastro's. It usually opened up at five and you could only get in with a reservation, but I knew the owner and he was willing to open it for me so I could enjoy it with Jennie alone.
I ordered the shrimp and lobster cocktail for an appetiser along with Mastro's house salad for us to share. I called for the waiter and put in our main meals. I ordered two porterhouse steaks for us and some red wine
