They wake at dawn with a smile,
But night brings them private pain.
To friends, they share half-truths,
And to parents, they hide the truth.
They fear they'll worry their loved ones,
With tales of suffering each night. In daylight, they look invincible,
But darkness brings silent tears.
Their strength is merely an illusion,
And sorrow is all they can feel.
No one can know their private anguish,
The pain they hide with a grin. They act strong, though their heart is breaking,
They're like a lighthouse in a storm,
But inside, they're crumbling and worn.
Their mask of bravery is paper-thin,
But their suffering is evermore. They hide their scars, they hide their pain,
They live a lie, though it's in vain.
Their strength is but a fleeting thing,
Their suffering cuts like a blade.
But through it all, they keep on smiling,
Though inside, their soul is breaking.
