When Jade arrived, Misty was laying gloomily on the top step in front of the door, her head resting on her paws. She lifted her head lazily as Jade approached.
"Where's the party place you were at with your humans?" Jade asked.
Misty got to her paws. "I can try to show you, but I was eating tuna when we were driving there." She said.
It was a long walk to get there. They turned left at the bus stop and wandered blindly for what felt like hours. Jade was sure it had to be midnight by the time they got there.
Jade clawed and bit at the lowest jade in the wall. Eventually it fell out with a soft chink sound.
"I'm going to have to sharpen my claws for a week straight to fix this." Jade complained absently, holding her paw in front of her face.
Jade picked up the small crystal and they headed home.
The sun had started to rise when they got back.
"I'm going to need a full week of napping to make up for not getting enough sleep yesterday." Misty yawned. "I don't know how Shadow does it."
Jade headed straight for Ebony's house, since his cat-flap was never locked it was her best option.
One of the humans spotted her and took the jade from her mouth. He seemed to understand. He got his camera, took a picture, and mailed it with a note.
A few weeks later, Ebony's human got a letter similar to the one Misty's human got. It contained a magical looking collar, just like the others but studded with jades.
We have received your letter and thank you for explaining the situation.
We've enclosed a jade collar for this alley cat you found.
Thanks to this smart kitten we have completed our search for all the Magic Cats.
Ebony fetched Jade and the human clipped the collar onto her. It was loose enough that Jade could take it off on her own whenever she wanted.
Jade happily left the house to go share the news with the rest of her friends.
In leaving the house, she discovered her powers. She was super fast. She ran to Shadow's house in at most a second. She wondered how long it would take to run around the world at full speed.
She ran all around their street, searching for Shadow.
On the way, she almost literally bumped into Misty.
"Oops, sorry Misty." She apologized
"It's ok." Said Misty absently. "What are the chances that all the Magic Cats live on the same street in the same city?" She asked, still in a far away voice.
Jade thought for a moment. "I think it'd be weirder if we weren't all near each other. They did live together at first, according to Suki. Besides, we don't all live on the same street, just the same block. Anyway, have you seen Shadow? I want to show her my new super-speed."
Misty shook her head. "Haven't seen her in weeks. Maybe Suki knows." She gestured toward Suki, who happened to be walking by at that moment.
Jade ran in circles around Suki. "Hi!" She purred when she stopped.
Suki smiled, giving Jade a fake, though genuinely excited, gasp. "You got your new collar!"
"Yup! And it's big enough for me to get it on and off on my own!" Jade used a paw to push the collar over her muzzle and flipped it off her head. Then she bent down and shoved the collar back on. "Have you seen Shadow anywhere?" She asked Suki, expecting her to have the same answer as Misty had given.
