My instincts never lied. When Jack came back to my life, I knew bad things would come raging our way. Now Helen got arrested, locked behind bars, and with no officer to listen to me. I was either invisible or they were all ignoring me because I couldn't see.June, our neighbor, drove me to the police station after Helen was arrested. She left immediately because of work but the good thing was she walked me in and made calls to Ben and Olivia to come over.
I sat desperately on a bench inside the noisy station. I waited and prayed that Ben and Olivia would show up. I attempted to talk to one of the people who sat beside me, but the guy was in a hurry so they couldn't help.
It had to be an hour since I arrived. That's when I heard some heavy footsteps moving towards me. I got alert because if it was Olivia or Ben, they could have called my name. Sitting up straight, I focused on the direction. Someone stopped in front of me.
“Miss, can I help you?” A gent in his thick voice asked. I waited to hear anyone speak because I couldn't tell if it was me or anyone around me. But no one spoke.
“Ye—” I paused when another voice spoke. It was a lady too, I was wrong, there was someone else.
“I'm here to see my son. He got arrested this morning for speeding.” The lady said in a worried tone. At least her son was guilty of something. For Helen, I was sure like hell that she wasn't involved in any murder.
“You just got here. I am speaking to her.” The officer said and the hair in my nape stood erect. “Miss, you've been here for forty-five minutes. Did you get some help?” at least he was counting how long I stayed.
I got up holding my stick. “Me?”
“Yes, You.” He had a calm voice that made me relax. Ever since I sat at the station, I heard how harsh the officers were.
“I did not get any help. I'm here because my sister got arrested this morning. Her name is Isla Helen. She was arrested as a s—”
“Okay, relax.” He said and just then, I felt his warm hand on my forearm. It alarmed me but I held it together, just to get help. “If I am not wrong, you are…blind?” He hesitated and said it carefully as though it was a sin.
“Yes. I am.” I nodded. It was not necessary though. “Can I speak to her? Please?”
“You can.” That relieved me. “But, why are you here alone?”
“I'm expecting someone but he is taking long—”
“I am here.” A voice interrupted me. I knew Ben’s voice, he did not own such a thick voice, and the last time I checked, Olivia wasn't a man. “Does she need a lawyer?” He continued, something about his voice felt familiar.
“She or he?” The officer asked in a joking voice, but I concentrated on the guy whose voice ran in my blood like a freaking poison.
“Isla Helen. Does that name sound like a he to you?” Okay, I needed to understand what he was doing because we both knew he came to get Jack out. Because Helen was arrested along with Jack. But I played dumb, first, to not show him that I knew him or recognized him, and second, to see what he was trying to do.
