What am I doing?

7. Art project (1)

Clyde opened the door to one of the art rooms and held it open for Lynn.

She went straight to a draw and took out some A3 plain paper and a few pens. In a scrawny hand-writing Lynn wrote the project task description.

'Beauty in pain'

Lynn sits down and begins to plot out all the different meanings of 'beauty in pain'.

~ a beautiful person in pain

~ a beautiful place in ruin

~ the beautifulness found in pain

Clyde leaned over her head and complemented her on her hand-writing but Lynn says that it's scrawl. 

They decide to merge the first and third idea together and then grab some laptops to create a mood board. Time flies and their mood boards get done quicker than expected, so Lynn and Clyde just sit and talk for the remaining half and hour before the end of school.

"So, you told everyone about your mom but you call her mother. That's very formal." Clyde stated taking a sip of iced peach tea.

"Yeah, I have only known her for a day" Lynn replies and Clyde chokes and spits out his drink before wiping his mouth and staring at her with his mouth hanging open. She chuckled. He was confused of course he was, so Lynn explained it him in as simple terms as possible so he would not be able to tell how fresh it still was.

She thought of her father lying in the hospital bed as the relentless beeping of a machine become one straight sound and strangers tore her away from him. Lynn waiting outside surgery room doors as her father had bits of cancer removed from his body in messy cuts and stitches. It was never enough.

The bell rang signalling the end of school hours and Lynn puts what they were working on in a folder and shoves it in her bag, when she feels a pair of arms around her shoulders. Turning around she finds Clyde hugging her and she completely freezes with fear, it had been so long since she had felt human contact. It was a quick sympathetic hug, like he was apologising for not being able to understand.
