What am I doing?

13. New friends?

Clyde, Lewis and the others leave the college and make their way along the main road, it is busy with traffic but not loud enough to drown out conversation. They walk two a breast along the path, four girls in front then four boys and then Lynn and Clyde. Lewis holds back and joins them, he explains to Lynn about what they are going to do. Buy snacks and then go to the park.

To be completely honest, Lynn thought that they would be doing something a little more illegal and that would be an excuse to leave. Socialising was not her strong suit.

They reached the store, a Walmart. Lynn's two dollars were still in her jacket pocket. The Walmart was bright and so full of fake plastic colours that it made her eyes hurt. Everyone was going off into the store so she followed, people broke off until it was just her, Tess and Luke. She was about to find the others when she heard the two arguing. Lynn couldn't help but listen.

"How many of my friends are you going to flirt with at once?!"- it was Luke

"I have not been flirting!" Tess replied. Lynn knew that that was a lie and she hoped that Luke knew too.

"I saw you! You keep batting your eyelashes at Clyde and Matt, you even stroked Noah's legs!". She didn't know that Tess was being that obvious.

"If you wont let me live my life and do what I want then we are over!" Tess cried before storming off, towards where Lynn was listening. She moved to the next aisle and bumped into Clyde and the other one who did the photoshoot. Clyde addressed him as Noah.

They left the store with about a full carrier bag of food and drinks between them. Lynn could feel Lewis' anger towards Tess but there was not much she could do.

The park they went was very open and green with a dense wooded area at the back. Luke chose the stairs by the bandstand. Luke handed out the drinks at to her surprise he had bought one for her, a sprite, she thanked him. Lynn also suspected that Clyde had told him about her situation, how much of it was unknown but she didn't mind, she trusted Luke.

Everyone else laughed and chatted while Lynn joined in at times it was about seven o'clock when they disbanded and Lynn began to walk home but Luke joined her. The walk was a bit awkward, Luke clearly had something on his mind and eventually he said it.

"Tess and I broke up" he started.

"I know", the words were out of her mouth before she could stop herself. "It is not hard to tell".

"People here don't bother to read other's emotions" Luke said. "I think you need to know, since you and Clyde are close", he stopped and Lynn looked at him sceptically, "- closer than anyone else I have seen you with, Tess is after Clyde or another one of the group next and she is bad news", he finished.

Lynn thought this over. "I will try and look out for him but I cant promise anything, if she asks him out and he says yes -"

"I think he has more sense, but she still may try some... uh... uncomfortable seduction attempts".

That made things awkward but they were at the drive that goes up to the house and they parted.
