Lynn went to bed thinking about what her mother had said.
Carrie loved her but she had made some mistakes that had prevented her from going with them to England. The one stupid moment of her life had cost her so much. Lynn fell asleep thinking about this.
During the morning car ride to the college, the atmosphere in the car was light and Lynn and Carrie talked calmly about general things.
She met Clyde just by the car and Lynn introduced him to Carrie. Everything had started to fall into place, Carrie's confession, her new life and dad's death had all started to become reality for her.
Clyde and Lynn had art but he had to go somewhere else before class so she continued to follow the directions on the walls.
Suddenly, a huge influx of students enveloped her and and carried her down the corridor for what felt like miles. Lynn was caught in the rapids and there was no way out. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she was forced through the building's maze of corridors. She was gulping for breath as people pushed and shoved her into the unknown.
The flood unexpected ceases and Lynn stumbles to the cold wooden floor, landing on her arms with a thud. A light mocking laugh sounds near by, Lynn turns over to see Tess looking down at her, grinning. Lynn stands up and dusts herself off and levels with Tess' gazed.
"Can I help you?" Lynn stutters.
"Yeah" Tess replies slyly, "you can shove off and leave Clyde alone" she says gripping Lynn's arms and digging her acrylic nails into her flesh. The pain was raw and Lynn's breaths came quick and sharp to try and distract from the pain as the nails began to draw blood.
"Why?" Lynn struggles to get the words out, gritting her teeth through the pain. Tess' eyes never left hers, they were staring straight into her soul. "There is an unspoken rule amounts women. You don't go after a man another girl likes" Tess spat out.
"I believed that you where dating Luke" Lynn said in the calmest voice she could muster, a thin stream of blood was trickling down her arm and the acrylic nails were going to leave holes in her hoodie. She tried to stop herself from shaking from the panic and the fear.
"I date who I want when I want" Tess replied. Lynn saw through the nicely wrapped words and translated what she said to 'I am a cheater'.
Another wave of people rushed through the corridor separating the two girls, and Tess disappeared
