Lynn walked into school fully aware of her music theory test that day. She had been revising the whole weekend, despite her being good at the theory and not so good at the practical she still needed to revise and get a good grade. The fact that America used a GPA system was ridiculous and Lynn definitely preferred England's grading method.
In her solemness Lynn didn't notice Clyde approach her and when he spoke she jumped. Clyde had dark bags under his eyes and looked as tired as he felt, he had clearly remembered the exam late and had pulled an all-nighter.
Lynn smiled and tried not to laugh as they made their way to the music rooms.
Luke joined them on their way and so did a few others even though none of the took music. They all wished Clyde luck and then Luke wished Lynn luck personally as no one else did, it made her smile, only a bit. She still felt like an outsider in America, like a guest and not to stay, which to be honest, is what she wanted. England was her home.
Lynn more or less flew through the test, either her revision was good or the test was easier than in England, she could not tell.
Leaving the classroom two hours later, she noticed Clyde's brown hair was even more messy than before he went it, if that was possible, clearly not a good test for him. Lynn felt bad for him and asked it it was really that bad.
"I will be lucky if I pass. I hate theory." he grumbled as they made their way to lunch. Carrie had remembered to give her some money as she went out the door, since her mother had a photoshoot in the house she could not drive her to school, but Lynn didn't mind.
The canteen was almost empty as everyone was studying for their A-level mocks (or whatever the American equivalent was) which would happen as soon as winter hit or they were doing God knows what outside before it got too cold. Carrie had given Lynn $6 so she bought a BLT sandwich and a bottle of water for $4.50 and sat down next to Clyde.
He looked terrible. Clearly this test meant a lot to him and Lynn patted him on the back as sympathetically as she could.
"I need to pass music theory because practical in not enough to get an overall B" he said as he stared at his food. She thought for a moment, "I could help". Clyde looked at her. "I could tutor you. You do do that here right?" she finished.
"Would you really?" his face lit up.
"Yeah sure, when and where?" Lynn stammered, she had not expected him to accept.
"How about tomorrow, after school, at my place?"
