So this idea came to me a couple nights ago and I'm rolling with it. Hypothetical situation:
Rollan loves flirting. Listen, that's his thing. And the one thing he loves more than that is people's reaction to it.
"You look gorgeous today." He winked in Meilin's direction, and while she clearly wasn't happy with him, that had to be the last straw. Rollan was honestly getting on her nerves- but when those words left his lips, she couldn't resist anymore.
A loud wack echoed out through the corridors of Greenhaven, all the heroes stalling a moment to look on with surprise. Meilin walked away while the poor boy held a hand to his cheek, grumbling about her reaction being harsh and unnecessary.
Something Meilin won't admit is she left with a genuine smile on her face and butterflies in her stomach. Something Rollan won't admit is he noticed. If he dare mention it, she might slap him again. While it was tempting, Rollan prided himself on eventually learning not to do certain things for the sake of his own survival. So, he decided to keep his mouth shut; not another word was ever mentioned of it.
Now, saying the same thing to Abeke was clearly a mistake. Not only did his cheek hurt, but so did his ego. Plus, it felt a little weird. He'd always seen her as more of a sibling...
And Conor had already claimed her.
Rollan could practically still hear the laughter, her hysteria vibrating off of the walls as she stumbled out of sight with laugh-tears in her eyes. It stabbed into his pride more and more.
Abeke didn't even thank him or tell him off, she... laughed. Loud. And in his face. Was it such a bad thing to tell a woman she looked good? He shuddered at the thought, nearly regretting his decision. Until Conor showed up, then it was pure amusement.
"Hey Rollan." The boy smiled, unnerved by the evil grin his friend illuminated and the clear outline of someone's hand on his face. Conor had a look that said, what did you do now?
"Conor, I gotta say dude, you look hot today." Rollan cocked his head to the side, leaning against the wall and looking- well, a dangerous tease.
The younger went bright red, muttering something that vaguely resembled "oh shit". He didn't move for a moment, Rollan staring him dead in the eye and slowly spreading his grin. Conor swallowed, squeaking out some lousy scramble of an excuse about Meilin tutoring him on vowels.
As he practically ran out the door, Rollan smiled in content. Now THAT was the reaction he was looking for.
No words to say, really. The oneshot speaks for itself-
Yeah, a little reprieve from the other ones where a character is either dying or coping with trauma... or both. Anyways, see ya in the next one. 😉
(Rollan wants to let you know you are absolutely stunning!)
