After every clue the unsub had laid for them had been found, the team regrouped once again at the conference room where the rest of pieces had been set. Sat around the table and in front of the TV, the DVD started to play. The image it showed was of a desk and a man that walked towards his seat right behind it. Wearing a dark suit and with his face hidden in the shadows, he spoke directly at them.
“He moves funny.” Hotchner commented. “It's like he's injured or something.”
“I assure you,” The man on the screen began. “you will all understand in the end why it must be this way. You might even thank me.”
“Don't hold your breath, scumbag.” Elle commented.
“You know now you're on a quest. A young girl's life depends on the successful completion of it. As you can see, she is quite beautiful and in distress. Now please listen closely, for there is one rule and this rule must be followed. The one rule is, only the members of your team may participate in the quest: Jason Gideon, Aaron Hotchner, Derek Morgan, Elle Greenaway, Spencer Reid, Jennifer Jareau, Penelope Garcia.” He listed. “A quest must be completed in the proper way or it isn't a quest, is it? That's it. One rule. Simple. Now, you will be receiving an item soon that will hold the final clue you will need to finish the quest. You will find you will also need a book which has inspired many an adventure like mine. Believe me when I tell you I truly hope to see you all soon. It will mean a successful end to this adventure for all of us.”
“This guy's got pictures of us?” Elle asked watching as they popped on the screen at the very mention of their names.
“What do we do now?” Reid questioned.
“Well, the lock of hair's being analyzed for DNA. There might be something on file.” Hotchner said.
“I'll get Video to enhance the shots of the girl.” JJ told them quickly standing up, taking the DVD out of the player and walking out of the room.
“So we're just going to play this guy's game?” Elle asked.
“Do we have a choice?” Reid said back, and from her seat in the room Y/N watched as Gideon suddenly stood up and walked out. His body expression saying the words his voice could not.
“I got it.” She told Hotchner, standing up at the same time as him. Knowing that it was more important that he kept working on the case rather than her. The agent simply nodded in agreement.
“Jason?” Y/N asked gently knocking at the door to his office. “Jason! What is it? What's wrong? Is there anything I can do to help?” She said stepping in to find him sunken in his desk chair looking quite distressed.
“I... I just have nothing left.” He said. “I needed a place where I didn't have to know what was out there. Where I could just close my eyes and not see bodies torn to pieces or hear children calling out for help. That cabin was the only thing I had left, and this guy took it away from me.”
“Jason...”
“Maybe I'm out of gas.” He said softly shaking his head. “I'd like to be alone, please.” He requested but, before she had even the time to comply, Hotchner’s figure leaned at the door.
“What's going on?” Gideon asked.
“It's the case we're working on. We just received another clue.” He answered. “A piece of paper with numbers on it. The team's got it. It's in the conference room.” He added as his colleague stood up from his desk and moved towards him.
“Sorry I disturbed the only moment of solitude you had.” Y/N said apologetically to Gideon as she followed him out the door.
“It’s alright, come with us.” He responded placing a hand on her shoulder and taking the young woman with them to the conference room.
